Nextoptim.com POP-UP Redirect (Mac)
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is nextoptim.com?
Similar to loadoages.com, nextoptim.com is a rogue site designed to cause redirects to other untrustworthy (potentially, malicious) websites.
Most users visit nextoptim.com inadvertently - they are redirected by intrusive ads (generated by other dubious sites) or potentially unwanted adware-type programs (PUPs), which infiltrate systems without consent. As well as causing redirects, potentially unwanted programs deliver intrusive ads and monitor web browsing activity.
Infiltrated PUPs open new browser tabs/windows and redirect to nextoptim.com. Users are then immediately redirected to another random website. There is a high probability that at least one of these sites will contain malicious content. Therefore, redirects to and from nextoptim.com might result in various computer infections.
In addition, PUPs deliver intrusive advertisements (coupons, banners, pop-ups, and so on) that can also lead to malicious websites and even execute scripts designed to download and install PUPs/malware. Even a single accidental click can lead to high-risk system infections.
These ads are delivered using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any visited site. They often conceal website content, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience. Another downside is information tracking.
Research shows that potentially unwanted programs gather information such as search queries, websites visited, pages viewed, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, keystrokes, and so on. This collected data usually includes personal details, that developers share with third parties.
These people (potentially, cyber criminals) generate revenue by misusing private information. Therefore, having information-tracking apps installed can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For these reasons, you should uninstall all PUPs immediately.

There are dozens of potentially unwanted adware-type programs, all of which are virtually identical. By offering a wide range of "useful features", PUPs attempt to give the impression of legitimacy.
These applications are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than delivering any real value for regular users, adware-type PUPs deliver intrusive advertisements and record sensitive data, thereby posing a direct threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety.
How did potentially unwanted programs install on my computer?
Research shows that many PUPs infiltrate systems without consent, since developers proliferate them using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" and intrusive advertisements. "Bundling" is essentially stealth installation of third party programs together with regular software/apps.
Developers hide "bundled" PUPs within various sections (typically "Custom" or "Advanced" settings) of the download/installation processes. Users often rush these procedures and skip steps, and are also likely to click various advertisements without understanding the possible consequences. In this way, many users expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent this situation, be very cautious when downloading/installing software and browsing the Internet. Select "Custom/Advanced" settings and carefully analyze each window of the download/installation dialogs. Opt-out of all additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them.
We advise you to download your applications from official sources only, using direct download links. Third party downloaders/installers are typically monetized by promoting PUPs, and thus these tools should never be used.
It is also important to note that intrusive advertisements often seem legitimate, but once clicked, redirect to dubious websites (gambling, pornography, adult dating, and similar). If you encounter such ads, immediately remove all dubious applications and browser plug-ins. The key to computer safety is caution.
