Search.searchapp.website Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is search.searchapp.website?
Similar to search.hidesearch.bid, search.searchapp.website is a fake Internet search that supposedly generates improved results and, therefore, enhances the browsing experience. These claims often trick users into believing that search.searchapp.website is legitimate and useful.
Despite this, criminals promote this fake search engine using a browser-hijacking PUP (potentially unwanted program) called SearchApp. Furthermore, search.searchapp.website and SearchApp continually record various user-system information, mostly relating to Internet browsing activity.
Immediately after infiltration SearchApp hijacks Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, assigning the new tab URL, default search engine, and homepage options to search.searchapp.website. These changes may seem insignificant, however, users are unable to revert them.
Research shows that SearchApp reassigns browser settings when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, returning browsers to their previous states becomes impossible and users are forced to visit search.searchapp.website when they open a new browser tab and/or search via the URL bar. Unwanted redirects significantly diminish the browsing experience.
Information tracking is also an issue. SearchApp and search.searchapp.website record data that is likely to contain personally identifiable details.
Furthermore, developers later sell the data to third parties who generate revenue by misusing private details. There is a high probability that information tracking will lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are advised to immediately remove the SearchApp browser hijacker and never return to search.searchapp.website

The Internet is full of fake Internet search engines, all of which are virtually identical. For instance, as with search.searchapp.website, websites such as search.iezbrowsing.com, i-searchresults.com, e-searches.com, and many others also offer improved search results and, sometimes, other useful features (such as quick access to popular websites, weather forecasts, etc.) In fact, false claims to provide "useful features" are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy.
Fake search engines are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than providing any real value for regular users, they cause unwanted redirects and record private information. Note that some are also designed to feed users with misleading results and intrusive ads (coupons, gambling, and so on). These typically lead to untrustworthy websites. Therefore, using fake search engines risks computer infection.
How did search.searchapp.website install on my computer?
SearchApp has an official download website, however, it often infiltrates systems without users' consent, since developers proliferate this PUP by employing the aforementioned intrusive ads with a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" (stealth installation of third party applications together with regular software/apps).
Developers conceal "bundled" apps within various sections of the download/installation processes. Many users rush these procedures and skip steps. In addition, they click advertisements, thus exposing their systems to risk of various infections.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge and careless behavior. The key to safety is caution. For these reasons, carefully analyze each window of the download/installation processes and opt-out of all additionally-included programs. Your applications should be downloaded from official sources only, using direct download links.
Criminals proliferate malware via fake download/installation tools and, therefore, they should not be used. criminals invest many resources into intrusive ad design - most look legitimate, however, when clicked, they redirect to gambling, adult dating, pornography, and other suspicious sites.
If you experience these redirects, immediately remove all dubious applications and browser plug-ins. Using a legitimate anti-virus/anti-spyware suite is also paramount.
