Search.htransitschedule.co Redirect

Also Known As: Transit Schedule browser hijacker
Damage level: Medium

What is search.htransitschedule.co?

Transit Schedule is a rogue application that supposedly provides various public transport schedules and other travel-related information.

Initially, this application may seem legitimate and useful, however, Transit Schedule usually infiltrates systems without users' consent. Furthermore, this app stealthily modifies web browser settings and continually gathers sensitive data. For these reasons, Transit Schedule is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and a browser hijacker.

search.htransitschedule.co browser hijacker

Research shows that Transit Schedule targets Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. Immediately after infiltration, Transit Schedule assigns the new tab URL, default search engine, and homepage browser options to search.htransitschedule.co (a fake Internet search engine).

These changes may seem insignificant, however, users are unable to revert them. The Transit Schedule browser hijacker reassigns browser settings when attempts are made to change them.

In doing so, the app prevents users from returning browsers to their previous states and they are encouraged to visit search.htransitschedule.co when they enter a search query into URL bar or simply open a new browser tab. By forcing users to visit search.htransitschedule.co, Transit Schedule significantly diminishes the Internet browsing experience.

Another downside is information tracking. This browser hijacker (and search.htransitschedule.co) continually gathers information that typically includes personal details. IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other collected data is often sold to third parties.

There is a high probability that information tracking will lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. If you encounter redirects to search.htransitschedule.co, immediately remove the Transit Schedule browser hijacker and never visit this site again.

Transit Schedule is identical to Local Weather Radar, Your Transit Info Now, Email Account Login, and many others. Note that these applications offer different functionality, however, their behavior is identical. browser-hijacking apps are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. These programs typically deliver no real value for regular users.

Potentially unwanted programs cause unwanted redirects and record user-system information. Fake search engines often generate false search results and/or intrusive ads (banners, coupons, etc.) Most of these results/ads lead to malicious websites.

In some cases, the ads also run scripts that download/install malware. Therefore, using a fake Internet search engine can lead to high-risk computer infections.

How did search.htransitschedule.co install on my computer?

Transit Schedule typically infiltrates systems without permission. Developers proliferate this PUP by employing a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" together with the aforementioned ads. "Bundling" is stealth installation of third party applications together with regular software/apps.

Developers do not disclose these installations properly - they conceal "bundled" apps within the "Custom/Advanced" options (or other sections) of the download/installation processes. By skipping download/installation steps and clicking on various advertisements, users expose their systems to risk of various infections.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

The main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge and careless behavior. The key to safety is caution. Therefore, be very cautious during the download/installation processes and when browsing the Internet. Closely analyze each window of the download/installation dialogs and opt-out of all additionally-included programs.

Note that intrusive ads typically look legitimate, however, they are distinguishable, since most lead to dubious websites (such as pornography, adult dating, survey, gambling, so forth). Most intrusive ads are displayed by adware-type PUPs - if you encounter them, uninstall all dubious apps/browser plug-ins.
