Newphn.com Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is newphn.com?
Identical to clicktabs.net, yesadsrv.com, creativesrv.com, and many others, newphn.com is a rogue website designed to direct to other suspicious sites.
Research shows that users often visit newphn.com inadvertently - they are redirected by various potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) that infiltrate systems without consent. As well as causing redirects, PUPs deliver ads, gather private information, and stealthily perform unwanted background tasks.
PUPs randomly open new browser tabs/windows and redirect to newphn.com. After visiting this site, users encounter a number (usually 2 or 3) of consecutive redirects to suspicious websites that might contain malicious content. Redirects such as these can result in high-risk computer infections.
As mentioned above, potentially unwanted programs also generate banner, pop-up, coupon, and other similar 'malvertising' ads. These are displayed via tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, the ads often conceal underlying content, significantly diminishing the browsing experience.
In addition, they can lead to malicious websites or run scripts that download and install malware/PUPs. Therefore, as with redirects to newphn.com, clicking them can result in computer infections.
Another downside is data tracking. PUPs often record various user-system information (such as URLs visited, search queries, pages viewed, keystrokes, etc.) that might be personally identifiable. PUP developers sell this information to third parties to generate revenue.
Furthermore, these rogue programs often perform unwanted tasks (such as mining cryptocurrency) without consent. By misusing system resources, PUPs significantly diminish computer performance. All of these actions are performed to generate revenue.
PUPs pose a direct threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety. Therefore, you should uninstall them immediately.

The Internet is full of potentially unwanted programs, all of which are virtually identical. Most offer various "useful features" (for example, file conversion/sharing, Internet download performance increasing, etc.), however, most are useless for regular users. Very few provide the functionality promised.
These false promises are merely attempts to trick users to install. Potentially unwanted programs are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than enabling useful functionality, they promote malicious websites (mostly fake search engines), collect user-system information, deliver intrusive ads (via the "Pay Per Click" advertising model), and diminish system performance.
How did adware install on my computer?
Research shows that some PUPs have official download/promotion websites, however, these programs are mostly distributed using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling", and via the aforementioned ads. Bundling is stealth installation of third party programs together with regular software/apps.
Developers hide "bundled" programs within the "Custom/Advanced" options or other sections of the download/installation processes - they do not properly disclose these installations.
Many users rush this stage and skip steps, often leading to inadvertent installation of potentially unwanted programs. Skipping download/installation steps and clicking ads, thus exposes systems to risk of various infections and compromises users' privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent system infiltration by PUPs, be very cautious when downloading/installing software and browsing the Internet in general. Carefully analyze each download/installation step (especially the "Custom/Advanced" settings), opt-out of all additionally-included programs, and decline offers to download/install them.
The bundling method is often used by developers of third party download/installation tools. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you avoid using these tools - download your software from official sources only using a direct download URL.
Furthermore, most intrusive ads appear genuine and it is virtually impossible to determine if they originate from the visited websites. If you have clicked ads leading to websites such as surveys, pornography, adult dating, gambling, etc., uninstall all suspicious applications and browser add-ons. The key to computer safety is caution.
