Clicknshare.net Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is clicknshare.net?
Identical to click-cpa.net, click.aarth.com, clickppcbuzz.com, and many others, clicknshare.net is a rogue website designed to redirect to other suspicious sites.
Research shows that users often visit clicknshare.net inadvertently - they are redirected by various potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) that infiltrate systems without permission. Furthermore, PUPs continually deliver intrusive advertisements and record information relating to users' Internet browsing activity.
Following infiltration, PUPs randomly open new browsing windows and redirect users to clicknshare.net. After visiting this site, users immediately encounter other redirects to random websites. The end point (a suspicious site) might contain malicious content. Therefore, these redirects can result in high-risk computer infections.
Another downside is information tracking. Research shows that PUPs continually deliver pop-up, coupon, banner, and other similar advertisements that conceal underlying content (thereby diminishing the browsing experience). They can also lead to malicious websites and even accidental clicks might result in adware or malware infections.
Furthermore, Internet browsing activity is monitored, since PUPs record IP addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other information that might be personally identifiable. This data is shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who generate revenue by misusing personal information.
Therefore, the presence of an information-tracking application can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Uninstall all PUPs immediately.
The Internet is full of PUPs, all of which are virtually identical. By offering various useful features, they attempt to give the impression of legitimacy, however, PUPs are useless for regular users. Their only purpose is to generate revenue for the developers.
They cause unwanted redirects (thereby generating traffic for various websites), display intrusive advertisements (via the "Pay Per Click" advertising model), and continually record various user-system information (which is later sold to third parties).
How did adware install on my computer?
As mentioned above, PUPs infiltrate systems without users' consent. They are distributed using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" - stealth installation of third party software with regular apps.
Developers hide all bundled programs within the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings of the download/installation processes. Rushing and skipping this section often leads to inadvertent installation of third party software.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two steps you should take to prevent system infiltration by PUPs: 1) closely analyze each download/installation step using the "Custom/Advanced" settings, and; 2) decline offers to download/install third party software. The key to computer safety is caution.
