Feed.getsportscore.com Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is feed.getsportscore.com?
Sports Score is a rogue application that supposedly provides access to various sports-related information. Initially, Sports Score may seem legitimate and useful, however, this app is categorized as a browser hijacker and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
There are three main reasons for these negative associations: 1) installation without consent; 2) stealth modification of browser settings, and; 3) tracking of users' Internet browsing activity.
Following infiltration, Sports Score hijacks Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, stealthily assigning the new tab URL, default search engine, and homepage options to feed.getsportscore.com (a fake Internet search engine). These changes may seem insignificant, however, users are unable to revert them.
Research shows that Sports Score automatically assigns browser settings when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, users are unable to return browsers to their previous states and are forced to visit feed.getsportscore.com when they open a new browser tab or search via the URL bar. These redirects significantly diminish the browsing experience.
Furthermore, Sports Score continually records information that might be personally identifiable. The collected data (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, IP addresses, etc.) is later shared with third parties who misuse personal details to generate revenue.
Therefore, the presence of an information-tracking app can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to uninstall the Sports Score browser hijacker immediately.
Sports Score is virtually identical to QuikLogin, Photor, TrackaPackage, MyMapsExpress, and dozens of other browser-hijacking apps.
Although these programs offer different functionality, they have identical behavior - they cause unwanted redirects (mostly to fake search engines) and record user-system information (which is later sold to third parties). The only purpose of browser hijackers is to generate revenue for the developers, whilst regular users receive no value.
How did feed.getsportscore.com install on my computer?
Sports Score has an official promotion website, however, it is also distributed using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". Therefore, users often install Sports Score inadvertently, without their consent. Bundling is stealth installation of third party applications with regular software.
Developers hide bundled programs within "Custom" or "Advanced" settings of the download/installation processes. Therefore, rushing and skipping this section often leads to inadvertent installation of PUPs such as Sports Score.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent system infiltration by PUPs, be very cautious when downloading and installing software. Closely analyze each step using the "Custom/Advanced" settings, cancel all additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them. The key to computer safety is caution.
