Adsbtrack.com Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is adsbtrack.com?
adsbtrack.com is a rogue website designed to redirect users to other sites that might also be malicious. Users often visit adsbtrack.com inadvertently - they are redirected by potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) that often infiltrate systems without consent (the "bundling" method).
As well as causing redirects, PUPs generate intrusive advertisements and continually record various user-system information.
PUPs open a new browsing window and automatically redirect to adsbtrack.com which, in turn, redirects to another website. These sites might contain malicious content. Therefore, redirects can result in high-risk computer infections. To deliver pop-up, banner, coupon, and other similar ads, PUPs employ a tool called a "virtual layer".
This enables placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, displayed ads often conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience. In addition, some might lead to websites that also contain malicious content - even accidental clicks can result in further computer infections.
PUPs also monitor Internet browsing activity by gathering various user-system information that might contain private details including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, geo-locations, websites visited, queries entered into search engines, pages viewed, and mouse/keyboard activity.
The collected data is later shared with third parties who misuse personal details to generate revenue. This behavior can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For these reasons, uninstall all PUPs immediately.
adsbtrack.com is identical to a number of other sites that also cause redirects including, for example, tapxchange.com, affrh2022.com, and adnetworkperformance.com. All PUPs are virtually identical. By offering various 'useful features', they attempt to trick users into believing that these apps are legitimate and useful.
In fact, PUPs are designed only to generate revenue for the developers, whilst regular users receive no value. PUPs cause unwanted redirects, deliver intrusive advertisements, and continually record user-system information.
How did adware install on my computer?
As mentioned above, PUPs are distributed using the "bundling" method. Developers know that users often rush the download/installation processes and skip steps. Therefore, PUPs are hidden within the "Custom/Advanced" options. Skipping this section often leads to inadvertent installation of rogue applications.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two simple steps you should take to prevent this situation. Firstly, never rush when downloading and installing software - select the "Custom/Advanced" settings and closely analyze each step. Secondly, decline offers to download/install additional applications and cancel of those already included. Never install bundled software.
