Search.hideyoursearch.com Redirect (Mac)

What is search.hideyoursearch.com?
Identical to yoursafesearch.com, saferqueries.com, my-search-start.com, chumsearch.com and many others, search.hideyoursearch.com is a fake Internet search engine that supposedly enhances the browsing experience by generating improved results.
Judging on appearance alone, search.hideyoursearch.com barely differs from Google, Yahoo, Bing, and other legitimate search engines.
Therefore, many users believe that search.hideyoursearch.com is also legitimate and useful. In fact, this website records various data relating to browsing activity. In addition, developers promote it by employing rogue download/installation set-ups that hijack web browsers and modify various settings without direct user-permission.
Following infiltration, set-ups hijack Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, assigning the new tab URL, default search engine, and homepage options to search.hideyoursearch.com. These changes may not seem significant, however, users are unable to revert them.
Research shows that set-ups stealthily install a number of third party applications and/or browser plug-ins (so-called "helper objects"). These apps and add-ons reassign the aforementioned settings when attempts are made to change them.
Therefore, returning browsers to their previous states becomes impossible and users are forced to visit search.hideyoursearch.com when they open a new browser tab or attempt to search via the URL bar. This significantly diminishes the web browsing experience.
Furthermore, Internet browsing activity is continually monitored, since search.hideyoursearch.com and helper objects continually gather IP addresses, search queries, URLs visited, pages viewed, and other similar data that might contain personal details. This data is shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who generate revenue by misusing personal details.
Therefore, information tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. If you encounter unwanted redirects to search.hideyoursearch.com, uninstall all suspicious applications and browser plug-ins. Never return to this site. The Internet is full of fake search engines, all of which are virtually identical.
By offering so-called 'useful features' (for example, improved search results, local weather forecasts, shortcuts to popular websites, etc.), they attempt to give the impression of legitimacy, however, the only purpose of search.hideyoursearch.com and other similar websites is to generate revenue for the developers.
These websites merely cause unwanted redirects and continually record various user-system information. Fake search engines are useless for regular users.
How did search.hideyoursearch.com install on my computer?
To promote search.hideyoursearch.com, developers employ a deceptive marketing method called "bundling", since they know that users often rush the download/installation processes and skip steps. Therefore, details of browser modifications are hidden within the "Custom/Advanced" options of these processes.
By skipping this section, users grant set-ups permission to modify various browser options, expose their systems to risk of various infections, and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two simple steps you should take to prevent this situation. Firstly, never rush when downloading and installing software. Select the "Custom/Advanced" settings and carefully analyze each step. Secondly, decline offers to download/install additional applications and never allow set-ups to modify settings irrelevant to the installation.
