BestZiper Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is BestZiper?
BestZiper is a deceptive application that supposedly allows easy and effective compression of various data. On initial inspection, this app may appear legitimate and useful, however, BestZiper is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.
There are three main reasons for these negative associations: 1) stealth installation without consent; 2) display of intrusive advertisements, and; 3) tracking of users' Internet browsing activity.
Following infiltration, BestZiper employs a "virtual layer" to generate pop-up, coupon, banner, and other similar advertisements. The virtual layer is a tool that enables placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, displayed ads often conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience.
In addition, some lead to malicious websites and even accidental clicks can result in high-risk adware or malware infections. Another downside is information tracking. BestZiper records IP addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other data that might be personally identifiable.
Developers of BestZiper share this collected information with cooperating third party companies who often misuse personal details to generate revenue. Therefore, the presence of a data-tracking information app might lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. We strongly advise you to uninstall BestZiper adware immediately.
There are dozens of adware-type applications virtually identical to BestZiper including Yeaplayer, Tools Plus, and Beautiful Desktop - these are just some examples from many. All claim to enhance the Internet browsing experience in some way.
Bear in mind, however, that all adware is designed only to generate revenue for the developers, whilst regular users receive no value. BestZiper, and other similar applications, deliver intrusive online advertisements and continually record various user-system information.
How did BestZiper install on my computer?
BestZiper is free for anyone to download on its official website, however, developers also proliferate this adware by employing a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" (stealth installation of third party applications with regular software/apps). Therefore, users often install BestZiper inadvertently, without their consent.
Developers hide bundled programs within the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings of the download/installation processes. Rushing and skipping this section exposes systems to risk of various infections and compromises users' privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent system infiltration by PUPs, be very cautious when downloading and installing software. Select the "Custom/Advanced" settings, closely analyze each step, and decline offers to download/install additional apps.
