Uninstall MyFileConvert unwanted application
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is hp.myway.com?
MyFileConvert is presented as a legitimate application that supposedly allows conversion of various file types. On initial inspection, MyFileConvert may seem legitimate and useful, however, this app often infiltrates systems without permission.
Furthermore, it stealthily modifies web browser settings and continually records various data relating to users' Internet browsing activity. For these reasons, MyFileConvert is categorized as a potentially unwanted application (PUA) and a browser hijacker.
Following successful infiltration, MyFileConvert modifies the Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox browsers' new tab URL, homepage, and default search engine options by assigning them to hp.myway.com.
These changes may not seem important, however, users are unable to revert them - MyFileConvert automatically reassigns web browser options when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, users are unable to return browsers to their previous states and continually encounter unwanted redirects to hp.myway.com.
This significantly diminishes the web browsing experience. Another downside is information tracking. MyFileConvert collects various user-system information that might be personally identifiable including, for example, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and Internet Protocol (IP) addresses.
This data is later shared with third parties who misuse personal details to generate revenue - behavior that can result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Therefore, the MyFileConvert browser hijacker should be uninstalled immediately.

Mindspark Interactive Network (MyFileConvert's developers) have released dozens of identical browser-hijacking applications. The list of examples includes (but is not limited to) ProductManualsPro, WatchMyTVShows, and OnlinePrivacyManager and many others.
These applications offer different features, but have identical behavior. By offering various 'useful features', MyFileConvert and these other apps attempt to attempt to give the impression of legitimacy. In fact, their only purpose is to generate revenue for the developers, whilst regular users receive no value.
Browser-hijacking applications such as MyFileConvert merely cause unwanted redirects and continually record various user-system information.
How did MyFileConvert install on my computer?
MyFileConvert is free for anyone to download on its official download website, however, it is also distributed using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". Therefore, many users install MyFileConvert inadvertently, without their consent, since they rush the download/installation processes and skip steps.
Aware of this, developers hide bundled applications within the "Custom/Advanced" settings of these processes. By carelessly skipping this section, users expose their systems to risk of various infections. Also, in some cases PUAs can be downloaded and/or installed by clicking deceptive advertisements. Although, only the ones that are designed to execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is recommended to download software (and files) only from official, trustworthy pages and through direct links. It is not safe to use third party downloaders (and installers), Peer-to-Peer networks (like torrent clients, eMule), unofficial sites and other similar channels as tools to download and/or install any files or programs.
It is possible that they could be used to distribute not only PUAs but also malicious programs. Also, it is always a good idea to check "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings of any download and installation setup and see if they mention offers to download and/or install unwanted applications.
Such offers should be declined before completing downloads and/or installations. Intrusive advertisements that appear on untrustworthy, shady pages should not be clicked too. Quite often they are designed to open various potentially malicious websites or even cause downloads, installations of PUAs.
If there are any unwanted apps (extensions, add-ons or plug-ins) installed on a browser, then they should be removed as soon as possible.
Software of this kind that is installed on the operating system should be uninstalled too. If your computer is already infected with MyFileConvert, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
