eAdvisor Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is eAdvisor?
According to developers, eAdvisor helps to save time and money by providing various e-shopping coupons. These claims often trick users into believing that eAdvisor is legitimate and useful, however, it is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.
There are three main reasons for these negative associations: 1) stealth installation without users' consent; 2) display of intrusive online advertisements, and; 3) tracking of users' Internet browsing activity.
Following successful infiltration, eAdvisor employs a "virtual layer" to generate coupon, banner, pop-up, and other similar advertisements. The virtual layer enables placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, the displayed ads often conceal underlying content of visited websites, significantly diminishing users' Internet browsing experience.
Furthermore, some lead to malicious websites and, therefore, even accidental clicks can result in high-risk adware or malware infections. Another downside is information tracking. eAdvisor continually records IP addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, and other similar information that might contain personal details.
In addition, eAdvisor's developers share these details with cooperating third party companies who misuse them to generate revenue. Therefore, the presence of an information-tracking app might lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. We strongly advise you to uninstall eAdvisor adware immediately.
There are hundreds of adware-type applications similar to eAdvisor including, for example, Dealicious, PriceChop, Stocks Alerts, and DragonBoost. All offer functionality to enhance users' Internet browsing experience, however, these claims are simply attempts to give the impression of legitimacy.
The only purpose of all adware is to generate revenue for the developers, whilst regular users receive no significant value. Adware-type applications merely deliver intrusive online advertisements and continually gather various information relating to users' Internet browsing activity.
How did eAdvisor install on my computer?
eAdvisor is free for anyone to download on its official website, however, most users install this application inadvertently, without their consent. This is due to a deceptive marketing method called "bundling", which developers use to proliferate eAdvisor adware.
Bundling is stealth installation of third party applications with regular (usually free) software. All bundled apps are hidden within "Custom/Advanced" settings of the download or installation processes - skipping this section often leads to inadvertent installation of rogue apps such as eAdvisor.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent system infiltration by PUPs, be very cautious when downloading and installing software. Closely analyze each step using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings. Furthermore, decline offers to download/install additional applications. The key to computer safety is caution.
