What is search.gracepot.com?
Identical to search.qamails.com, search.ragitpaid.com, search.mokytlerino.com, and many other sites, search.gracepot.com is a fake Internet search engine that falsely claims to generate improved search results. Judging on appearance alone, search.gracepot.com may seem very similar to Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other legitimate search engines.
Therefore, many users believe that search.gracepot.com is also legitimate. In fact, this site is promoted via malicious download/installation set-ups that infiltrate web browsers and stealthily modify various options. In addition, search.gracepot.com tracks users' Internet browsing activity.
Rogue set-ups hijack Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome, stealthily assigning the default search engine and homepage options to search.gracepot.com. Furthermore, set-ups install additional applications/browser plug-ins called "helper objects".
Users are unable to revert these changes, since helper objects reassign browser settings when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, returning browsers to their previous states becomes impossible and users are continually redirected to search.gracepot.com without their consent.
This diminishes the browsing experience. Furthermore, web browsing activity is continually monitored - search.gracepot.com and helper objects continually record various data. Types of collected information include (but are not limited to) search queries, URLs visited, pages viewed, and Internet Protocol (IP) addresses.
The data might contain personal details, and is shared with third parties who misuse private data to generate revenue. Therefore, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity. If you encounter unwanted redirects to search.gracepot.com, remove all suspicious apps/browser plug-ins and never visit this site again.
There are hundreds of fake Internet search engines, all of which are virtually identical. By offering improved search results and a number of other 'useful features', websites such as search.gracepot.com attempt to give the impression of legitimacy.
In fact, these sites are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than providing any significant value for regular users, fake search engines cause unwanted redirects and continually gather personal data. Some generate results leading to malicious websites. Therefore, using them can result in high-risk computer infections.
How did search.gracepot.com install on my computer?
As mentioned above, search.gracepot.com is promoted via rogue download/installation set-ups. This deceptive marketing method is called "bundling".
Developers hide details of browser settings modification within the "Custom" or "Advanced" options of the download/installation processes. Rushing these procedures and skipping steps inadvertently grants set-ups permission to modify various browser options.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent system infiltration by potentially unwanted programs, be very cautious during the download/installation processes. Closely analyze each step using the "Custom/Advanced" settings. Furthermore, decline offers to download/install additional applications. The key to computer safety is caution.
