BSOD Driver Problem Scam

What is BSOD Driver Problem?
"BSOD Driver Problem" is a false error message displayed by a rogue website. It claims that the operating system has been infected and that there are some issues regarding system drivers.
This error imitates the "Blue Screen of Death [BSOD]". The website that displays this error is promoted using various adware-type applications - users consequently encounter unwanted browser redirects. Furthermore, these apps usually track Internet browsing activity and deliver intrusive online advertisements.
The error message states that the system has been corrupted and encourages users to contact a "Microsoft-Certified Technician" via a toll-free telephone number provided (888-540-4641). This person will supposedly solve the problem. Users are also warned that closing the browser and restarting the computer could result in data loss or to a non-bootable situation.
This error is fake. There are no infections or any other problems. Cyber criminals attempt to trick users into paying for help that is not needed. Paying is equivalent to sending your money to cyber criminals - you will support their malicious business and waste your money.
Therefore, we strongly advise you to ignore all errors and requests to pay. Furthermore, adware-type applications often display intrusive online advertisements that conceal underlying content of visited websites, thereby significantly diminishing Internet browsing experience. The ads can lead to malicious websites and, thus, clicking them will result in various computer infections.
Another downside of these rogue applications is data tracking. Adware records IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, geo-locations, language settings, and other similar information that is shared with third parties (who often attempt to generate revenue by misusing private information).
This behavior can cause serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Therefore, all adware-type applications should be uninstalled immediately.
There are many fake error messages similar to BSOD Driver Problem. Examples include BSOD Error, Enter A Product Key, BLOCK Due To Suspicious Activities, and many others. All claim that the operating system is damaged or corrupted in certain ways. These claims are false.
The error messages attempt to scare users and trick them into calling the aforementioned technicians (who ask victims to pay money for their services).
How did BSOD Driver Problem install on my computer?
Adware-type applications are often distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called "bundling" - stealth installation of third party software with regular software. Developers know that many users do not pay enough attention during the download/installation processes.
Aware of this, they conceal bundled programs within the "Custom/Advanced" section of these procedures. By skipping this section, users expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two main steps you should take to prevent this situation. Firstly, never rush when downloading and installing software - select the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings and carefully analyze each step.
Furthermore, decline all offers to download/install third party applications and opt-out of those already included. There is a high probability that bundled programs will be rogue. Therefore, you should never install them.
