TappyTop Browser Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is TappyTop Browser?
TappyTop is a dubious chromium-based web browser that claims to enhance web browsing safety. By giving these fake promises, TappyTop often tricks users to install. Research shows that TappyTop is also likely to infiltrate systems without direct user-permission.
Furthermore, it causes unwanted browser redirects, delivers intrusive online advertisements, and collects various web browsing-relating information. For these reasons, TappyTop is classed as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
Following infiltration, TappyTop generates various intrusive online advertisements displayed in a number of browsers. To achieve this, TappyTop employs a 'virtual layer' - a tool that enables placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, third party advertisements often conceal underlying content of visited websites.
Furthermore, some lead to malicious websites - clicking them can lead to further high-risk computer infections. TappyTop also causes unwanted browser redirects to search.tappytop.com without users' consent. Continual display of unwanted ads and unwanted browser redirects significantly diminish the Internet browsing experience.
Furthermore, the Internet browsing experience is continually monitored, since TappyTop records geographic location, IP addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries, browsing history, and other similar information.
This information might be personally identifiable and shared by developers of TappyTop with third parties who misuse private details to generate revenue. Thus, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues. You are strongly advised to uninstall this potentially unwanted program immediately.
TappyTop is identical to Protectium and also very similar to Olcinium, Wind, Chromodo, and many other chromium-based browsers. All offer 'valuable features', however, claims to enhance the Internet browsing experience are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimate software.
Adware is designed only to generate revenue for the developers. Most deliver no real value for regular users. Apps such as TappyTop cause unwanted browser redirects, collect personally identifiable information, and deliver intrusive online advertisements, thereby diminishing the browsing experience and putting users' privacy at risk.
How did TappyTop Browser install on my computer?
This bogus application is distributed using an official promotion website and a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of PUPs with regular applications/software. Bundling is the main reason why many users install this application inadvertently.
Bundled applications are often hidden within the "Custom/Advanced" settings of the download or installation processes. Many users skip this section, thereby exposing their systems to risk of various infections.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Many potentially unwanted programs are distributed using the bundling method. Therefore, each step of the download/installation processes should be analyzed. Select the 'Custom/Advanced' settings, observe each step, and cancel all third party applications listed for download and/or installation.
