Browser Toolbox Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Browser Toolbox?
Identical to HooplaSearch, Search Adventure, and Search Voyage, Browser Toolbox is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) claiming to enhance the web browsing experience by generating the most relevant search results and providing various search-related tools - "Browser Toolbox provides you with a wide variety of web tools that make searching the internet a better experience."
Browser Toolbox often infiltrates systems without users’ permission. Following successful infiltration, this PUP generates intrusive online advertisements, records various information, and continually causes unwanted browser redirects. It is for these reasons that Browser Toolbox is classed as a potentially unwanted program and adware.
After system infiltration, Browser Toolbox employs a 'virtual layer' to generate pop-up, banner, interstitial, transitional, full-page, search, coupon, and other similar advertisements. Users are often unaware that these ads do not originate from their visited websites.
Some of these third party advertisements conceal underlying website content, thereby diminishing the web browsing experience. Note that some redirect to dubious websites - clicking them is risky and can lead to further computer infections.
In addition, Browser Toolbox continually redirects users to search.browsertoolbox.com without their consent, diminishing the web browsing experience.
Furthermore, Browser Toolbox continually gathers unique identifier numbers, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (to determine geographic location), website URLs visited, search queries entered into search engines, pages viewed, and other similar data that might be personally identifiable. SuperWeb LLC (developers of Browser Toolbox) share this gathered information with third parties who commonly misuse private details to generate revenue.
Thus, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to uninstall Browser Toolbox adware immediately.
SuperWeb LLC has released hundreds of identical PUPs. All offer a number of valuable functions, however, none provide the functionality promised. Browser Toolbox, and other SuperWeb LLC products, are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.
These apps provide no real value for regular users. Applications such as Browser Toolbox simply cause unwanted browser redirects, gather personally identifiable information, and display intrusive online advertisements.
How did Browser Toolbox install on my computer?
SuperWeb LLC employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to distribute it's products. Therefore, many users install Browser Toolbox inadvertently, since they do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software.
Aware of this, developers hide PUPs within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings of the download/installation processes. This virtually guarantees successful infiltration. By skipping this section, users expose their systems to risk of various infections and put their privacy at risk.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two main steps you should take to prevent system infiltration by potentially unwanted programs. Firstly, closely analyze each step of the download/installation processes within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings section. Secondly, decline all additionally-included programs and offers to install them.
