What is Greek Police Virus?

This message (supposedly delivered from the Greek Cyber Crime Unit), blocks computer screens and demands payment of a 100 Euro fine by using Ukash or PaySafeCard. This is a scam. The message is not sent by Greek authorities - it is a deceptive message developed by cyber criminals in order to scare unsuspecting PC users into paying the bogus fine.

Note that paying this fine is equivalent to sending your money to cyber criminals. No international authorities (including the Greek Cyber Crime Unit) use screen blocking messages to collect fines for any law infringements. Messages such as these are called ransomware.

Cyber criminals responsible for creating these scams, target different countries and the ransomware infections are designed with the capability to determine the IP addresses of computers they infiltrate.

What is POLITIE Belgique Police Fédérale?

The POLITIE Belgique Police Fédérale message blocks computer screens ordering payment of a 100 Euro fine to unblock it. This is a scam, a virus (ransomware infection) created by cyber criminals targeting PC users predominantly from Belgium.

The deceptive message displayed by this ransomware states that the user is required to pay a fine for watching pornography or downloading and distributing copyrighted content such as music, videos, etc. No international authorities or other organizations use such methods (blocking computer screens) to collect fines for any law violations.

This message is developed and distributed by cyber criminals in the hope that unsuspecting PC users fall for their trickery and pay the bogus fine.

What is Policia Nacional de Uruguay?

The Policia Nacional de Uruguay message locks computer screens, demanding payment of a US$100 or 2000 Peso fine. This is a scam. The message is created by cyber criminals who make money from unsuspecting PC users who falls for their trickery and pay the bogus fine.

Accusations of watching pornography and downloading or sharing copyrighted content are false - these are displayed to scare computer users into believing that they have committed a crime and required to pay a fine. In fact, neither the Policia Nacional de Uruguay nor any other international authority or organization, use desktop locking messages to collect fines for law violations.
