Usearch.co.id Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is usearch.co.id?
Usearch.co.id is a dubious website claiming to be a legitimate Internet search engine, however, by falsely claiming to improve the Internet search experience, this site simply attempts to give the impression of reputable software.
The developers promote usearch.co.id using deceptive software 'installers' that stealthily modify web browser settings without users' consent. Furthermore, this site generates dubious search results and collects various browsing-related information.
Rogue software installers are designed to assign the Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox default search engine, homepage, and new tab URL browser settings to usearch.co.id. Additionally, several applications and/or browser extensions (called 'helper objects') are installed to prevent users from rolling back these changes.
When users attempt to modify browser settings, helper objects automatically reassign them usearch.co.id. This behavior significantly diminishes the Internet browsing experience, since users are continually redirected to usearch.co.id website without their consent.
Furthermore, usearch.co.id generates suspicious search results. There is a high probability that displayed sites will contain malicious content. Therefore, using usearch.co.id website to search the Internet risks further adware or malware infections.
There are dozens of rogue websites virtually identical to usearch.co.id including search.genieo.com, mywebfinding.com, search.searchbenny.com, and tohotweb.com. By falsely claiming to enhance the Internet browsing experience, these websites attempt to trick users into believing that they are legitimate.
Their real purpose, however, is to generate revenue for the developers - rather than providing any of the functionality promised, usearch.co.id and other similar sites, cause unwanted browser redirects, deliver intrusive online advertisements, and continually gather personally identifiable information.
How did usearch.co.id install on my computer?
Usearch.co.id is promoted using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of potentially unwanted programs with regular software/apps. Many uesrs do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software.
They rush these processes and skip most/all steps. For this reason, developers conceal bogus software within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. By skipping these sections, users often inadvertently install potentially unwanted programs, thereby exposing their systems to risk of further infection and compromising their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The key to computer safety is caution. Be attentive when downloading and installing software. Many PUPs are concealed and therefore, you should closely analyze each step of the download/installation processes using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Furthermore, bundled software is mostly malicious and, thus, should never be installed.
