Tmtk Control Unwanted Application
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Tmtk Control?
Tmtk Control is a deceptive app claiming to be a legitimate software that provides users with various amusing videos. On initial inspection, this app might seem legitimate and even useful, however, Tmtk Control often infiltrates systems without users’ consent.
Furthermore, it tracks Internet browsing activity and records various user/system data. For these reasons, it is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
There is a high probability that some of the recorded information will be personally identifiable. The developers of Tmtk Control share this data with third parties who can misuse personal details to generate revenue. Thus, having Tmtk Control installed on your system is risky and may lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. This behavior is common for adware and browser-hijacking programs.
Although Tmtk Control does not generate intrusive online advertisements, it is similar to potentially unwanted programs such as Provider, Savepath Deals, and GetPrivate.
All claim to improve Internet browsing experience by enabling certain functionality, however, rather than providing the features promised, these apps deliver intrusive online advertisements and track users' Internet browsing activity, thereby diminishing the Internet browsing experience and putting their privacy at risk. These apps are developed to generate revenue for the developers - users receive no significant value.
How did Tmtk Control install on my computer?
Tmtk Control is proliferated using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of additional programs with regular software/apps. For this reason, many users install this application inadvertently. The developers conceal installation Tmtk Control within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings.
Unaware of this, users often rush the download/installation processes and skip this section. This can lead to inadvertent installation of potentially unwanted programs. Developers' revenue is dependent on the number of PUPs distributed and, hence, there is no reason for them to properly disclose installation of rogue software.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent installation of potentially unwanted programs, be attentive during the download and installation processes. Select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical'. Bundled software is mostly rogue and, therefore, your should never install additionally-included third party apps.
