Princess Games Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Princess Games?
According to the developers, Princess Games allows users to play various addictive Flash games (for example, puzzles, quizzes, etc.) Initially, this application may seem legitimate and useful, however, be aware that Princess Games is adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
The reason for this is stealth installation without users' consent, display of intrusive online advertisements, and tracking of Internet browsing activity.
Without users' permission, Princess Games continually monitors Internet browsing activity and records various software and hardware information including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, unique identifier numbers, operating system/browser types, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other similar browsing-related data.
Developers share these details (some of which might be personally identifiable) with third party companies who can misuse them to generate revenue. Thus, Princess Games poses a direct threat to your privacy.
In addition, Princess Games generates banner, in-text, interstitial, and other similar intrusive advertisements that conceal underlying content (thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience). They might also redirect to infectious websites. Clicking these ads is risky and may lead to high-risk adware or malware infections.
All are displayed using a 'virtual layer', which enables placement of third party graphical content on any visited websites. If you are concerned with your privacy and Internet browsing safety, uninstall Princess Games immediately.
Princess Games is virtually identical to Teras Games, Jewel Quest Solitaire, Zombie Invasion, and other adware-type applications also claiming to provide various useful features. By giving these fake promises, applications such as Princess Games attempt to give the impression of legitimate software.
In fact, adware-type applications provide none of the promised functionality. Their purpose is to generate revenue for the developers - rather than providing any real value for users, Princess Games generates intrusive online advertisements and collects personally identifiable information.
How did Princess Games install on my computer?
The developers employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of third party apps with regular software/apps), and thus, Princess Games often infiltrates systems without users' permission. Most users are unaware that PUPs are intentionally hidden within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings.
By rushing when downloading and installing software, and skipping most/all steps, they inadvertently install PUPs such as Princess Games.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The key to computer safety is caution. Only by closely analyzing the download and installation processes, will you be able to prevent installation of adware-type apps. Choose the 'Custom/Advanced' settings and follow all steps of the download/installation processes. In addition, never accept offers to download or install additional applications - bundled software is mostly rogue.
