Live Update 365 Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Live Update 365?
Live Update 365 is a deceptive app claiming to notify users of available software update - "Live Update 365 A free software designed to inform you of available software updates for your computer".
Some users may believe that this functionality is legitimate and useful, however, Live Update 365 is classed as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). There are three main reasons for these negative associations: stealth installation without users' permission; tracking of Internet browsing activity, and; display of intrusive online advertisements.
Live Update 365 generates various intrusive online advertisements that do not originate from the visited websites. To achieve this, developers (HURSEN) employ a virtual layer, which enables placement of any graphical content on visited websites.
Since these ads do not originate from your visited sites, they might conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience. Furthermore, some can redirect to bogus websites containing infectious content. Thus, clicking them can lead to further computer infections.
Live Update 365 also records various information regarding users' Internet browsing activity. The developers of this app might later share this collected data with third party companies who can misuse it to generate revenue. Therefore, having Live Update 365 installed on your system might lead to various privacy issues. You are strongly advised to uninstall this adware from your system.
There are hundreds of adware-type applications with behavior identical to Live Update 365 including, for example, PopDown, DownloadBoss, and MyBrowser. These apps deliver fake promises simply to trick users to install. After infiltrating the system, however, they merely display intrusive online advertisements and collect personal data.
The purpose of adware is to generate revenue for the developers (via the 'Pay Per Click' - PPC - advertising model) and selling personal data to third party companies. Adware delivers no real value for users.
How did Live Update 365 install on my computer?
Although Live Update 365 has an official download website, most users install this application inadvertently without their knowledge. Developers achieve this using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of third party programs with regular software/apps.
Most rogue applications are hidden within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings, thus, by skipping this section and rushing the download and installation processes, users often inadvertently install rogue applications, thereby exposing their systems to risk of infection.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Be attentive during the download and installation of software. All applications should be downloaded from a trusted source - usually the official website. Closely analyze each step of the download and installation processes and use the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical'. This will reveal any hidden PUPs listed for installation and allow you to cancel them.
