PopDeals Ads

What is PopDeals?
PopDeals is presented as a legitimate browser extension that helps to save time and money when shopping online - "Popdeals is a dynamic online tool that automatically offers you relevant deals according to your searches in real time. It was developed to serve those who are always looking for the best deals online, bringing a better online shopping experience."
These fake promises often trick users into believing that PopDeals is a legitimate and useful application, however, be aware that this app is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). The rogue behavior of this application includes stealth installation, display of intrusive advertisements, and tracking of Internet browsing activity.
PopDeals is developed to display pop-up, banner, coupon, and other similar advertisements. This app employs a virtual layer, which enables placement of third party graphical content on visited websites. The displayed ads do not originate from the visited website and conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience.
In addition, some may ads redirect to dubious sites containing infectious content, and therefore, there is a high probability that clicking them will lead to further adware or malware infections. As with other adware-type applications, PopDeals monitors and gathers various Internet browsing-related information.
Although the developers state that the collected information (Internet Protocol [IP] addresses, browser type or version, operating system, website URLs visited, pages viewed, etc.) is not personally identifiable, it might contain personally identifiable details (such as PayPal or bank account logins/passwords).
The developers of this PUP later share this gathered data with third parties, and therefore, having PopDeals installed can lead to serious privacy issues. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to eliminate PopDeals immediately.
PopDeals Privacy Policy regarding information tracking:
We collect other information when you visit the Site and/or install one or more of the Application components, including your computer's Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type or version, operating system type or version or the webpage you were visiting before you came to our Site, pages of our Site that you visit, the time spent on those pages, information you search for on our Site and by using the Application, access times and dates, usage statistics for your use of the Application and other statistics (Non-Identifying Information).
PopDeals is virtually identical to ComparingGenie, AllDaySale, FirstOffer, and hundreds of other applications offering identical features.
Although these applications claim to help users, they simply display intrusive online advertisements and collect data. Promises to provide useful functionality are merely attempts to trick users to install - the purpose of these applications is to generate revenue for the developers. They provide no real value for users.
How did PopDeals install on my computer?
The developers distribute PopDeals using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs with regular software/apps). This method is effective, since many users do not pay enough attention when downloading and installing software - they do not express caution when downloading and installing software.
Potentially unwanted programs are often concealed within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings, and by rushing the download and installation processes, users often inadvertently install PopDeals or other similar apps.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Rogue applications such as PopDeals are commonly hidden, and therefore, it is important to express caution when downloading and installing applications. Closely analyze each step, declining all offers to install additional programs. Furthermore, perform these procedures using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
