How to uninstall the InternetSpeedUtility unwanted app?
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is hp.myway.com?
The InternetSpeedUtility toolbar is developed by Mindspark Interactive Network and claims to allow users to test their Internet download and upload speeds. Some users may find this functionality legitimate and useful, however, this toolbar is considered to be a browser hijacker and a potentially unwanted application (PUA).
The main reason for these negative associations is stealth installation - InternetSpeedUtility infiltrates systems/browsers without users' permission. Following installation, Internet browser settings are modified and users' Internet browsing activity is potentially monitored.
InternetSpeedUtility modifies the Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox browser default search engine, homepage, and new tab URL settings by assigning them to the hp.myway.com website. The settings are modified without users' permission.
In doing so, InternetSpeedUtility diminishes the Internet browsing experience, since users are continually redirected to hp.myway.com - a questionable search engine. It is common that such search engines generate search results that include links to other unreliable sites.
In addition, this toolbar co-operates with third party companies, and therefore, browsing activity may be tracked and certain information collected (some of which may contain personally identifiable details). This behavior can lead to issues related to online privacy, browsing safety or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to the uninstall InternetSpeedUtility toolbar immediately.

Mindspark Interactive Network has released a number of identical browser toolbars including HomeHelpGuide, EasyWebPagePrint, RecipeSearch.
Although these plug-ins offer various different features, all have identical behavior. Rather than providing the features promised, they collect system data and change certain browser's settings which causes constant redirects to certain addresses. To sum up, the main purpose of apps like InternetSpeedUtility is to generate revenue for the developers.
How did InternetSpeedUtility install on my computer?
Although this toolbar has an official download website, it is commonly distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling', and therefore, often infiltrates systems without users' permission. Bundling allows developers to stealthily install third party applications with regular software.
Many users do not pay enough attention when downloading and installing software, and therefore, bundling is a very effective method. Some users are unaware that developers conceal bogus apps within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options. When rushing the download/installation procedures, they often skip these steps and inadvertently install rogue apps.
Also, it is common that unwanted apps are distribute via deceptive ads that are designed to execute certain scripts. When clicked, those ads cause download and/or installation of some potentially unwanted application.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download and/or installation setups that include settings like "Custom", "Advanced" (or certain checkboxes) should be always checked for offers to download and/or install unwanted apps before completing downloads and/or installations. Files and programs should be downloaded only from official websites and via direct links.
Unofficial, pages, Peer-to-Peer networks (like eMule, torrent clients), third party downloaders, installers and other tools, channels could be used by third parties as tools to distribute unwanted, in some cases even malicious apps.
Advertisements that appear on questionable websites websites can be designed to open untrustworthy websites, or even cause downloads and/or installations. Therefore, such ads should not be clicked. Additionally, there should be any unwanted, suspicious extensions, add-ons and plug-ins installed on a web browser, or programs of this kind installed on the operating system.
