What is Gruuvin?
Motion Apps, the developers of the rogue application called Gruuvin, present it as a legitimate online radio player. This functionality may seem legitimate and useful, however, be aware that Gruuvin is classed as adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
The developers of this rogue app employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling', which allows stealth installation of third party applications during download of regular software.
After successful infiltration, Gruuvin generates numerous intrusive online advertisements - clicking these will expose your computer to risk of infection, since they often redirect to bogus websites containing dubious content.
In addition, Gruuvin continually monitors Internet browsing activity and collects various software and hardware information that may be personally identifiable. For example: IP addresses, browser type, websites visited pages viewed, search queries, unique identifier number, operating system, language settings, geolocation, etc.
Tracking of personally identifiable information can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Gruuvin is similar to Coupon Alert, RoamingRate, Assist Point, and many other adware-type applications. Although these apps claim to enable various useful futures, they are useless to the user.
Gruuvin, and other adware, is developed simply to generate revenue by the display of intrusive ads and sharing collected data with third parties. Therefore, you are strongly advised to eliminate Gruuvin from your system immediately.
As with other adware applications, Gruuvin is mostly distributed via small programs called 'download applications' (also called 'installers', 'download managers', 'download clients', etc.) on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, and softonic.com.
Download applications are employed to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of advertised (according to the developers '100% legitimate and virus-free') applications or browser add-ons together with the chosen free software.
Despite these claims, reckless download and installation of freeware risks computer infection with adware and malware. This situation can be avoided by closely inspecting each step of the free software download procedure and clicking 'Decline' if installation of any additional applications is offered.
Furthermore, install software downloaded from the Internet using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' options - this will reveal any third party applications listed for installation and allow you to decline them. If you have installed Gruuvin, follow the instructions provided below to remove this adware from your system immediately.
