Passion Fruit Rewards Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Passion Fruit Rewards?
Developed by My Publisher Ltd, Passion Fruit Rewards is a rogue application (a potentially unwanted program or 'PUP') claiming to enable users to collect points for various Internet browsing activities such as online shopping. This feature may seem legitimate and useful, however, be aware that Passion Fruit Rewards is classed as adware.
This type of application commonly employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to install on Internet browsers without users' consent.
Bundling is a way to stealthily distribute applications together with other software, and therefore, most users inadvertently install Passion Fruit Rewards during download of free software from freeware download websites.
After successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, this rogue application delivers intrusive online ads and tracks users' Internet browsing activity.
Passion Fruit Rewards collects various information including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries entered, and other details. Additionally, generated advertisements include (but are not limited to) banners, pop-ups, and hypertext links.
Information tracking and intrusive advertisements such as these can lead to serious privacy issues and high-risk adware or malware infections. SaveZ, rePrice, and PennyBee are just some examples of many rogue applications that are similar to Passion Fruit Rewards.
Neither Passion Fruit Rewards, nor any of these other applications, provide any valuable functionality - the purpose of applications such as Passion Fruit Reward is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online ads and sharing collected data with third parties. Therefore, you are strongly advised to eliminate this adware from your system.
Today, most adware is distributed via small download programs (called 'installers', 'download managers', 'download clients', etc.) on freeware download websites such as download.com, softonic.com, and soft32.com.
Download programs are employed to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of additional programs together with the chosen free software. These applications are said to be '100% legitimate and virus-free', however, reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
To prevent installation of potentially unwanted programs such as Passion Fruit Rewards, pay close attention to each step of the free software download process and never accept installation of additional programs offered.
In addition, when installing downloaded software, select the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options and deselect any additional software offered - this will avoid installation of adware or malware-type applications.
If your computer is infected with Passion Fruit Rewards, and you observe intrusive online advertisements while surfing the Internet, read the instructions below and uninstall this adware from your Internet browsers.
