What is Fact Fire?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, Fact Fire is a rogue browser extension claiming to enhance the Internet browsing experience by enabling comparison shopping, coupons, and other similar functions. Although this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, be aware that Fact Fire is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) or adware.
This rogue application employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) to install on Internet browsers without users' permission.
After successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome, Fact Fire tracks users' Internet browsing activity and generates intrusive online ads.
Advertisements generated by Fact Fire include banner, search, transitional, pop-up, interstitial, and full-page ads. There is a high probability that clicking advertisements generated by this rogue application will lead to further high-risk adware or malware infections.
Furthermore, this rogue application continually tracks users' Internet browsing activity by recording various software and hardware information including IP addresses (to determine geographic locations), website URLs visited, pages viewed, unique identifier numbers generated during installation of any software, search queries entered into search engines, and other similar data that may be personally identifiable.
This information tracking may result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to eliminate Fact Fire from your Internet browsers.
Fact Fire is identical to other applications developed by SuperWeb LLC including DigiHelp, Faster Light, and Browser Nail. None of these are useful to the user.
This company intentionally releases identical browser extensions under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-virus and anti-spyware suites - the real aim of these extensions is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online ads.
Research shows that most adware is distributed via small 'download programs' used by freeware download websites such as soft32.com, download.com, and softonic.com.
Download programs are used to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of promoted (according to the developers, '100% virus-free') browser extensions together with the chosen free software. Thus, careless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
To prevent installation of Fact Fire, or other adware, be attentive when downloading free software and never accept installation of any additional applications offered. Furthermore, all software downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options - this will reveal any hidden applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
If you have installed Fact Fire, and you observe 'Ads by Fact Fire', 'Powered by Fact Fire', and 'Fact Fire Deals' when surfing the Internet, follow the removal instructions provided to uninstall this adware from your Internet browsers.
