What is Key Lime Lizard?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, Key Lime Lizard is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) claiming to improve the quality of Internet browsing by enabling comparison shopping, coupons, and other functions. Although this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, be aware that it is categorized as adware.
Key Lime Lizard employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) to install on Internet browsers without users' permission.
Following successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, Key Lime Lizard generates various intrusive online advertisements including banner, interstitial, search, transitional, full-page, and pop-up ads. It is highly probable that clicking advertisements generated by Key Lime Lizard will lead to high-risk adware or malware infections.
Furthermore, this potentially unwanted program continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity by collecting various software and hardware information such as Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, unique identifier numbers, search queries entered, website URLs visited, pages viewed, and other similar details that are likely to be personally identifiable.
This information tracking may result in serious privacy issues or identity theft. SuperWeb LLC has released hundreds of PUPs identical to Key Lime Lizard. Girafarri, Klip Pal, SquirrelWeb, and Rad Rater are just a few examples among many others. Neither Key Lime Lizard, nor any other of these other browser plug-ins, provide any value for the user.
This company releases identical browser extensions under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-virus and anti-spyware suites - their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online ads and sharing collected information with third parties. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to eliminate Key Lime Lizard adware from your Internet browsers.
Research shows that most users inadvertently install adware during download of free software via small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com and many others.
Download managers are used to monetize these websites' free services by offering installation of advertised (according to the developers, '100% legitimate' browser extensions) together with the chosen free software. Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware risks computer infection with adware or malware.
This situation can be avoided by paying close attention when downloading free software and clicking 'Decline' if installation of any additional programs is offered.
Furthermore, all software downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options - this will reveal any applications bundled for installation and allow you to decline them.
If you have installed Key Lime Lizard and you observe 'Powered by Key Lime Lizard', 'Key Lime Lizard Deals', and 'Ads by Key Lime Lizard' advertisements while browsing the Internet, read the removal instructions below and uninstall this adware from your Internet browsers.
