What is TV Time?
TV Time is a rogue browser plug-in developed by Ratio Applications. This extension claims to enable a function allowing users to adjust computer screen lights when watching online videos.
Although this may seem legitimate and useful functionality, be aware that TV Time is categorized as adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) to install on Internet browsers without users' permission.
Following successful installation on Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome, TV Time tracks users' Internet browsing activity and generates intrusive online advertisements.
The types of advertisement generated by TV Time include banner, text/in-text, interstitial, pop-up and pop-under ads. It is highly probable that clicking these advertisements will lead to high risk adware or malware infections.
In addition, TV Time continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity by collecting information such as Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, geographic locations, unique identifier numbers, operating systems and browser types, search queries entered, website URLs visited, pages viewed, and other details that are likely to be personally identifiable.
TV Time is similar to other potentially unwanted programs that use bundling as an installation method. Examples include DiscountWizard, ShopHelper, and SoftCoup among many others. Neither TV Time, nor any of the other listed applications, are useful - their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online advertisements.
This behavior may result in serious privacy issues or identity theft, and for this reason, you are strongly advised to uninstall TV Time from your Internet browsers.
Research shows that most adware such as TV Time is distributed via small programs called 'download clients' on freeware download websites including download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com, etc.
Download clients are used to monetize these websites' free services by offering installation of advertised '100% legitimate' browser add-ons together with the chosen free software. Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
This situation can be prevented by closely inspecting each step of the free software download process and declining installation offers of any additional programs.
Furthermore, software downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options - this will allow you to decline any bundled applications listed for installation. If you have installed TV Time adware, read the following removal guide to eliminate it from your Internet browsers.
