Cantataweb Ads

What is Cantataweb?
Created by SuperWeb, Cantataweb is a rogue browser add-on compatible with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome.
It claims to improve the quality of users' Internet browsing experience by enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and other functions, however, the developers of this browser extension employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to install Cantataweb on browsers without users' consent.
Bundling allows developers to stealthily distribute their applications together with other software, and for this reason, most users inadvertently install Cantataweb together with free software downloaded from freeware download websites.
Although Cantataweb may appear to provide useful functionality, be aware that it is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) or adware. Following successful infiltration, Cantataweb generates intrusive online advertisements and monitors users' Internet browsing activity.
These intrusive online advertisements include banner, text-link, transitional, interstitial, search, and full-page ads. Clicking these advertisements is likely to cause high-risk adware or malware infections. In addition, it continually tracks users' Internet browsing activity by collecting various software and hardware information that may be personally identifiable.
For example: IP addresses, unique identifier numbers, URLs visited, search queries entered, pages viewed, and other similar details. This behavior may lead to serious privacy issues or identity theft, and therefore, you are strongly advised to eliminate Cantataweb from your Internet browsers.
The developers of this PUP have released several hundred rogue browser add-ons identical to Cantataweb (for example DizzyDing, PursuePoint, BrowsePro, and Quantum Look). Neither Cantataweb, nor any other of these other browser plug-ins, provide any real value for the user.
SuperWeb LLC intentionally releases identical browser add-ons under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-virus and anti-spyware programs. The purpose of these PUPs is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online advertisements.
Commonly, users infect their computers with adware during download of free software via small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites such as download.com, softonic.com, soft32.com, and many others.
Download managers are used by these websites as free service monetization tools, since they offer installation of promoted '100% virus-free' browser plug-ins together with the chosen free software. Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
This situation can be prevented by closely observing each step of the free software download process and clicking 'Decline' if installation of any additional programs is offered. In addition, if you are installing downloaded software, select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to decline them.
If your computer is infected with Cantataweb and you observe "Ads by Cantataweb", "Cantataweb Deals", and "Powered by Cantataweb" advertisements, read the following removal guide to eliminate this adware from your Internet browsers.
