What is iDeals?
The iDeals rogue browser extension claims to save time and money by enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and displaying special deals/discounts available within online stores.
While this functionality may seem useful and legitimate, be aware that iDeals is considered to be adware or a potentially unwanted application since it employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional applications together with the chosen free software) to install on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) without users' permission.
Following successful infiltration, iDeals generates intrusive online advertisements and monitors users' Internet browsing activity.
These intrusive online advertisements include banner, pop-up, interstitial, search, and text-link ads.
There is a high probability that clicking these advertisements will lead to high-risk adware or malware infections. In addition, this potentially unwanted application continually tracks users' Internet browsing activity by recording various software and hardware information such as IP addresses, operating systems, browser types, search queries entered, URLs visited, pages viewed, geo-locations, language settings, and other similar details.
This information tracking may lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft, and for this reason, you are strongly advised to uninstall iDeals from your Internet browsers.
There are many rogue browser add-ons similar to the iDeals extension, for example, Sm23mS, Savings Champion, Fraven, amongst many others. Neither iDeals nor any of these other browser plug-ins add any real value for the user - their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online advertisements.
Most users infect their computers with adware such as iDeals during download of free software via small programs called 'download clients' on freeware download websites including download.com, softonic.com, and soft32.com
Download clients are used to monetize these websites' free services by offering installation of promoted 'virus-free' browser extensions together with the chosen free software. Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware often leads to adware or malware infections.
This situation can be prevented by closely observing each step of the freeware download process and never accepting installation of any additional applications offered. If you are installing downloaded software, select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options - this will reveal any bundled applications and allow you to opt out of them from the installation list.
If you have already installed iDeals and observe intrusive online advertisements when surfing the Internet, read the following removal guide to uninstall this adware from your Internet browsers.
