Webrunn Virus

What is webrunn?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, the webrunn rogue browser extension claims to enhance users' Internet browsing experience by enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and adding other useful functionality. Although webrunn may seem a legitimate browser plug-in, be aware that it is categorized as adware or a potentially unwanted application.
Webrunn employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to install on browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome) without users' permission.
After successful infiltration, webrunn generates various intrusive online advertisements including banner, search, text-link, interstitial, transitional, and full-page ads. There is a high probability that clicking these advertisements will lead to high-risk adware or malware infections.
In addition, webrunn adware continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity by recording diverse hardware and software information such as Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, unique identifier numbers, search queries entered, URLs visited, pages viewed, and other similar details, which may be personally identifiable.
This behavior may lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. The developers of this browser extension (SuperWeb LLC) have released several hundred potentially unwanted applications identical to webrunn.
Yawtix, ResultsBay, Webget, and Adanak are just a few examples amongst hundreds. SuperWeb LLC intentionally releases identical browser add-ons under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-virus and anti-spyware suites. These applications are useless for the user - their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online advertisements.
Research shows that most Internet users inadvertently infect their computers with adware such as webrunn during the download of free software via small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites (such as softonic.com, soft32.com, and download.com).
Download managers are used to monetize these websites' free services by offering promoted browser extensions together with the chosen free software. Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware risks system infection with adware or malware.
This situation can be prevented by closely inspecting each step of the freeware download process and never accepting installation of any additional programs offered. Internet users who install downloaded freeware should choose the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options - this will reveal all hidden applications listed for installation and users will be able to decline them.
If you have installed webrunn and observe "Ads by webrunn", "Webrunn Deals", and "Powered by webrunn" advertisements when browsing the Internet, follow this removal guide to eliminate webrunn adware from your Internet browser.
