Browsebit virus

What is Browsebit?
Browsebit is a potentially unwanted application developed by SuperWeb LLC. This company is known for releasing identical browser plugins (adware) under different names in order to avoid detection by antivirus and anti-spyware programs. This add-on is distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling'.
Commonly, Internet users install this plugin without their consent when downloading free software. While Browsebit promises to make Internet browsing more productive by adding multiple site search capabilities and displaying website trust ratings, in fact, this plugin adds no significant value, and moreover, generates intrusive ads and tracks users' Internet browsing activity.
After successful infiltration, this add-on generates search, banner, text link, transitional, interstitial, and full page advertisements. Browsebit is also known to track users' IP addresses, unique identifier numbers, operating systems, browser information, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries entered, and other software and hardware information.
A clear indication that your Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox) are infected with this adware, are "Browsebit Ads", "Browsebit Deals", and "Powered by Browsebit" advertisements visible whilst browsing the Internet.
This add-on is identical to previous variants named Storimbo, Trontizer, BrowseSmart, amongst many others. While browsebit is not a virus or malware, clicking on advertisements generated by this plugin can lead to high-risk security infections. Furthermore, this browser extension tracks users' Internet browsing habits, behavior that can lead to serious privacy issues.
The best way to avoid installation of such potentially unwanted applications is to pay close attention to free software downloading steps. Today, most freeware download websites use deceptive 'download clients', which are used to monetize their free downloads by offering installation of additional browser plugins (in most cases adware).
When downloading free software, look for offers to install promoted browser plugins and opt-out of them by clicking the 'decline' button.
When installing a recently-downloaded free program, use the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options - this step reveals installation of any bundled browser plugins. If you observe ads generated by browsebit, use the removal instructions provided to eliminate this adware from your Internet browser/s.
