TVgenie Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is TVgenie?
The TVgenie browser add-on is created by WebAppTech Coding LLC and promises to enhance Internet users' browsing experience by adding the 'dim lights' function when watching online videos. This plug-in can be used when watching YouTube videos to overlay website components, which would otherwise be distracting.
Whilst 'dim lights' functionality may seem useful, many Internet users refer to TVgenie as a virus or adware. These negative associations are made since this browser extension is 'bundled' with free software; when installed on users' computers, it causes various unwanted ads to appear on popular websites such as Wikipedia, YouTube, Google, etc.
Furthermore, this add-on tracks Internet browsing habits by monitoring browser and other software information, IP addresses, web-page URLs visited, etc. When installed on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla FireFox), this add-on generates in-text, interstitial, and pop-up ads.
TVGenie is commonly distributed via deceptive online ads or by bundling the browser plug-in with free software. TVGenie add-on is not a computer virus, however, due to Internet browser tracking and intrusive ads implemented by this software, you are advised to eliminate it from your computer.
Since TVGenie plug-in is often bundled with freeware, inadvertent installation can be avoided by closely checking each install step of free software downloaded from the Internet.
Today, the majority of download websites monetize their free downloads by using 'download clients' and 'installers', which offer (in some cases forcibly) installation of additional software or browser extensions. Frequently, these additional programs cause privacy issues and may lead to intrusive online ads.
Thus, you are advised to avoid installation of any programs bundled with freeware. TVGenie is similar in behavior to another potentially unwanted program (PUP) created by WebAppTech Coding LLC called Safe Monitor. To eliminate this adware from your Internet browser/s, use the removal instructions provided.
