Coupon Pigeon Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Coupon Pigeon?
Coupon Pigeon is a potentially unwanted program (PUP), a browser add-on, which displays coupon ads on various online shopping websites such as qvc.com, Walmart, zappos.com, Target, etc.
Many computer users report that this browser plug-in was installed on their Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla FireFox) without their consent, and furthermore, many experience unwanted coupon ads and diminished browser performance.
Note that the developers of Coupon Pigeon (215 Apps) create PUPs such as these on an almost daily basis. They also employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' for distribution. Unwilling installation of Coupon Pigeon adware is usually a consequence of not paying close enough attention when downloading and installing free software.
Be aware that many download websites and freeware developers bundle their free downloads and programs with additional, promoted software such as toolbars, browser add-ons, etc.
This is in order to monetize the incoming web traffic. If you do not pay close attention by checking each step during the freeware installation phase, you may inadvertently install Coupon Pigeon or other adware. Coupon Pigeon is not a computer virus, however, it is categorized as adware and thus recommended for removal from your computer.
Coupon Pigeon is just one of many unwanted browser extensions created by 215 Apps. Further examples of similar adware include Discount Dragon, Savings Assistant, amongst many others. Note that reckless installation of free software downloaded from the Internet may result in adware, redirects, or even malware issues.
If you feel that Coupon Pigeon was installed on your Internet browser/s without your consent, use the removal guide provided to eliminate this adware.
Note that at time of testing, Coupon Pigeon was installed on Internet browsers as 'Coupon Genie' (this is believed to be a mistake made by the developers of this browser add-on).
