How to remove the NetSearchPanel adware from your operating system
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is NetSearchPanel?
While inspecting new submissions to VirusTotal, our research team found a rogue application named NetSearchPanel. Following our analysis of this application, we determined that it operates as adware. It is pertinent to mention that NetSearchPanel is part of the AdLoad malware family.
NetSearchPanel adware overview
Adware stands for advertising-supported software. It runs intrusive advertisement campaigns, i.e., this software enables the placement of ads on various interfaces. The advertisements endorse scams, unreliable/fake/harmful software, and even malware. Some intrusive adverts can perform stealthy downloads/installations upon being clicked.
Note that any legitimate products encountered through these ads are most likely promoted by scammers abusing affiliate programs in order to obtain commissions fraudulently.
Adware might not deliver ads if certain conditions are unsuitable, e.g., incompatible browser/system, particular websites are not visited, etc. However, regardless of whether NetSearchPanel displays adverts - its presence endangers device/user safety.
Furthermore, this app might have browser hijacker functionalities since they are common for AdLoad adware, although it did not exhibit any during testing.
What is more, NetSearchPanel likely gathers private data. Information of interest can include: browsing and search engine histories, personally identifiable details, usernames/passwords, credit card numbers, and so on. The collected data can be monetized through sale to third-parties.
To summarize, the presence of software like NetSearchPanel on devices may result in system infections, serious privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft.

Adware examples
We have analyzed thousands of adware samples; InformationLeader, InitialMethod, and AnalogManager are merely a few of our newest finds. Advertising-supported software usually appears harmless and offers "handy" features. However, these functions seldom work as promised, and in most cases - they do not work at all.
How did NetSearchPanel install on my computer?
Apps like NetSearchPanel are often proliferated through fake Adobe Flash Player updaters/installers. Adware can also be bundled (packed together) with regular programs. Downloading from dubious channels (e.g., freeware and third-party sites, P2P sharing networks, etc.) and rushing through installation - increases the risk of allowing bundled content into the system.
Intrusive advertisements spread adware as well. When clicked on, some of the adverts can execute scripts to make downloads/installations without user permission.
Advertising-supported software can have "official" download webpages, and it is promoted on scam sites. Users typically enter these types of pages via redirects caused by websites using rogue advertising networks, spam browser notifications, misspelled URLs, intrusive ads, or installed adware (with browser force-opening abilities).
How to avoid installation of adware?
We strongly advise researching software and downloading only from official/trustworthy sources. When installing, it is essential to read terms, study possible options, use the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings, and opt-out of all additional apps, extensions, tools, etc.
Another recommendation is to exercise caution when browsing since illegitimate and malicious content usually looks innocuous. For example, intrusive advertisements appear ordinary yet redirect to highly questionable websites (e.g., adult-dating, gambling, pornography, etc.).
In case of encounters with such ads/redirects, check the device and immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with NetSearchPanel, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.

What does adware do?
Adware displays advertisements on visited websites and/or other interfaces. Some types can also force-open sites and gather private data.
How do adware developers generate revenue?
Most of the profit comes from affiliate programs in the form of commissions for the promotion of various websites, applications, products, services, and so forth.
Will Combo Cleaner remove NetSearchPanel adware?
Yes, Combo Cleaner will scan your device and eliminate detected adware-type apps. It must be mentioned that manual removal (i.e., unaided by security software) might not be a perfect solution.
