How to remove BlissFresh adware from the operating system
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is BlissFresh?
While inspecting new submissions to VirusTotal, our researchers discovered the BlissFresh application. After analyzing this piece of software, we learned that it is adware belonging to the AdLoad malware family.
BlissFresh adware overview
Advertising-supported software (adware) is designed to display advertisements on visited sites and/or other interfaces. It may require certain operating conditions (e.g., compatible browser/system, visits to specific websites, etc.). However, regardless of whether BlissFresh (or other adware) delivers ads or not - its presence endangers device/user safety.
The adverts displayed by this software primarily promote online scams, untrustworthy/harmful sites and software, and even malware. Additionally, some intrusive advertisements are capable of performing stealthy downloads/installations - once clicked on.
Note that any legitimate products encountered through these ads are unlikely to be endorsed by their actual developers. Instead, this promotion is undertaken by scammers who abuse the products' affiliate programs to obtain illegitimate commissions.
Furthermore, BlissFresh may have browser hijacker abilities as they are standard for AdLoad adware; however, it did not exhibit any during our analysis.
What is more, this application likely has data tracking functionalities. Targeted information can include: browsing and search engine histories, usernames/passwords, personally identifiable details, credit card numbers, etc. The gathered data can be monetized through sale to third-parties.
In summary, the presence of advertising-supported software like BlissFresh on devices can lead to system infections, serious privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft.

Adware examples
We have analyzed countless adware samples; NavigateNetwork, IndexInterface, and DevSoftware are merely a couple of examples. This software usually appears legitimate and offers "handy" features. However, these functions seldom work as promised, and in most cases - they are utterly nonoperational.
How did BlissFresh install on my computer?
Adware can be bundled (packed together) with regular programs. Download from dubious channels (e.g., unofficial and freeware sites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, etc.) and rushed installations (e.g., skipped steps and sections, etc.) increase the risk of allowing bundled content into the system.
Additionally, fake Adobe Flash Player updaters/installers are used in distribution. Intrusive advertisements proliferate advertising-supported software as well. When clicked on, some of these adverts can execute scripts to make downloads/installations without user permission.
Adware is also promoted on questionable download webpages and scam sites. Most users enter pages of this kind through redirects caused by websites using rogue advertising networks, intrusive ads, mistyped URLs, spam browser notifications, or installed adware (with browser force-opening capabilities).
How to avoid installation of adware?
We highly recommend researching software and downloading only from official/verified channels. Furthermore, installation must be approached with caution, e.g., by reading terms, studying available options, using the "Custom/Advanced" settings, and opting-out of all supplements.
We advise being careful when browsing since fraudulent and malicious content usually looks harmless. For example, intrusive advertisements appear legitimate yet redirect to highly questionable sites (e.g., adult-dating, pornography, gambling, etc.).
In case of encounters with such ads and/or redirects, check the device and immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with BlissFresh, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What harm can adware cause?
Adware can diminish the browsing experience and system performance. This software is considered a privacy threat since it typically has data tracking abilities. Furthermore, adware-delivered advertisements promote deceptive/malicious content that can cause serious issues (e.g., system infections, financial losses, etc.).
What does adware do?
Adware is designed to run intrusive advertisement campaigns. In other words, this software displays advertisements on visited websites and/or different interfaces. Advertising-supported software may also be capable of force-opening sites and collecting private data.
How do adware developers generate revenue?
Adware developers generate most of their revenue through affiliate programs by promoting various websites, applications, products, services, and so forth.
Will Combo Cleaner remove BlissFresh adware?
Yes, Combo Cleaner can scan computers and eliminate installed adware-type apps. It is pertinent to mention that manual removal (unaided by security programs) might be ineffective. In some instances, even after the adware itself has been (manually) removed - file leftovers remain within the system. What is more, some of these remnants can continue running and causing issues. Therefore, advertising-supported software must be removed thoroughly.
