Removal instructions for ObjectRemote adware and the ads it delivers
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on
What is ObjectRemote?
ObjectRemote is a rogue application our researchers found while inspecting new submissions on VirusTotal. We determined that this app is a piece of advertising-supported software (adware), and it also belongs to the AdLoad malware family.
ObjectRemote adware overview
ObjectRemote is designed to run intrusive advertisement campaigns (i.e., display ads). It is noteworthy that adware may need certain specifications to be met in order to operate properly. For example, this software may not deliver advertisements if the device/browser is incompatible, users do not visit particular websites, etc. Regardless of whether ObjectRemote (or other adware) runs ad campaigns or not, its presence endangers device/user safety.
Adware-displayed adverts usually push various scans, untrustworthy/harmful websites and software, and in some cases - malware. Furthermore, when clicked, intrusive advertisements may infiltrate software into the system.
Any legitimate content encountered through these ads is unlikely to be promoted by its actual developers. This advertising method is commonly used by scammers abusing affiliate programs to obtain illegitimate commissions.
ObjectRemote may have browser hijacker traits, although it did not exhibit any during testing, but they are common for AdLoad adware.
What is more, this application may have data tracking abilities. Adware typically monitors users' browsing activity and collects sensitive data extracted from it (e.g., personally identifiable details, usernames/passwords, finance-related information, etc.). This data is then shared with and/or sold to third-parties.
To summarize, the presence of software like ObjectRemote on devices - can result in system infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft.

Adware examples
CoinCycling, ConnectProcess, DynamicGrid, and AdvancedServices are just some examples of the adware we have analyzed. It tends to look legitimate and offer "handy" functions, which are seldom operational. Therefore, this software is not only useless, but it also threatens device integrity and user privacy.
How did ObjectRemote install on my computer?
Adware is proliferated using a wide variety of deceptive/questionable techniques. Software bundling - packing ordinary programs with unwanted/malicious supplements - is commonly used to spread adware. Download from dubious channels (e.g., Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, freeware and unofficial websites, etc.) and rushed installations - increase the risk of allowing bundled content into the system.
Some intrusive ads can be triggered (by being clicked) to execute scripts designed to download/install software without user consent.
Advertising-supported software can also have "official" promotional/download webpages, which are rarely accessed intentionally. Most users enter them through mistyped URLs or redirects caused by sites using rogue advertising networks, intrusive advertisements, spam browser notifications, or installed adware (with webpage force-opening capabilities).
How to avoid installation of adware?
We strongly recommend researching software and downloading only from official/trustworthy sources. Additionally, when installing - it is advised to read terms, study possible options, use the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings, and opt-out of all supplements.
We must emphasize the importance of exercising caution when browsing - since illegitimate and malicious content typically appears genuine. For example, intrusive adverts look harmless, yet they redirect to highly questionable websites (e.g., gambling, pornography, adult-dating, etc.).
If you encounter such ads/redirects, inspect the system and immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with ObjectRemote, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.

Will Combo Cleaner remove ObjectRemote adware?
Yes, Combo Cleaner is capable of scanning computers and eliminating installed adware-type apps. It is pertinent to mention that manual removal (unaided by security software) might be ineffective. In some cases, even after the software itself is (manually) removed - file leftovers remain hidden in the system. Furthermore, the remnants can continue running and causing issues. Therefore, it is strongly advised to eliminate adware thoroughly.
