How to remove unwanted apps that promote peachlandeu.com

Also Known As: peachlandeu.com pop-up
Type: Mac Virus
Damage level: Medium

What is peachlandeu[.]com?

Commonly, websites such as peachlandeu[.]com trick visitors into believing that their devices are infected with viruses and installing potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), which supposedly remove the viruses (or other threats).

In summary, these web pages use deceptive tactics to promote PUAs. This particular page suggests that the privacy of its visitors might be at risk and invites them to download a VPN client.

Note that users do not often visit pages such as peachlandeu[.]com intentionally - they are opened by PUAs that are already installed on devices, or when users click deceptive ads or visit other dubious websites.

peachlandeu[.]com scam

Research shows that there are at least four variants of the peachlandeu[.]com website, all offering installation of a VPN client. At least two of the peachlandeu[.]com variants promote a VPN client called Harbor VPN - Secure Connection.

This app is available for download on Apple App Store and, therefore, it is likely that this is a legitimate application, however, this does not mean that peachlandeu[.]com or other similar web pages are trustworthy - they can be used to promote various browser hijackers, adware-type apps and other potentially unwanted applications.

Therefore, apps should be downloaded only from official pages and never from or through pages such as peachlandeu[.]com. Commonly, browsers open these bogus sites due to PUAs already installed on them. These apps promote dubious web pages, serve advertisements, and collect data. They can serve coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and other ads. These ads promote untrusted pages and, in some cases, are capable of running scripts that cause download/installation of unwanted software.

PUAs collect data such as IP addresses, entered search queries, addresses of visited pages, geolocations and other browsing details. In some cases, they target sensitive, personal details as well.

There are many pages similar to peachlandeu[.]com. Some examples are moderation-support[.]network, appleconnect.safellk[.]com and global-support[.]space. Most use deceptive tactics to trick visitors into installing rogue software.

People do not often visit these sites intentionally. If a PUA is installed on the browser and/or the operating system, it might open peachlandeu[.]com or other dubious sites. Therefore, remove all PUAs immediately.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

Unwanted downloads and installations often occur when developers distribute PUAs by integrating them into the download/installation setups of other programs as "extra offers". This distribution method is known as "bundling". The offers can be declined in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of the setups (or by unticking certain checkboxes). Many users fail to check and change these settings (or untick the checkboxes), thereby allowing PUAs to infiltrate together with the desired software.

PUAs are also downloaded and installed by clicking deceptive advertisements (usually on untrusted sites) that execute certain scripts.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

Download software and files from official websites and via direct links. It is not safe to use torrent clients, eMule (or other Peer-to-Peer networks), third party downloaders, unofficial websites or other sources of this kind. Avoid third party installers. Check "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings, and decline offers to download or install unwanted software.

Do not click ads that are displayed on dubious websites, since they can open other untrusted websites or even cause unwanted downloads and installations.

Remove any unwanted, suspicious applications (extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins) that are installed on the browser. The same should be applied to programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system.

If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
