Stop redirects to and from readnewmessage.com

Also Known As: readnewmessage.com pop-up
Damage level: Medium

What is readnewmessage[.]com?

readnewmessage[.]com is a rogue website. There are thousands of similar sites online, including, for example, wapwon-k.unoallwownewz.com, and urgent-incoming.email. Visitors to readnewmessage[.]com are presented with dubious content and/or are redirected to other untrusted or possibly malicious web pages.

Few visitors access these websites intentionally - most are redirected to them by intrusive ads or Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs). This software does not need explicit user consent to be installed onto systems. PUAs cause redirects, run intrusive advertisement campaigns and collect browsing-related data.

readnewmessage[.]com pop-up redirects

The behavior of readnewmessage[.]com is determined by visitors' geolocations. This information is extracted from users' IP (Internet Protocol) addresses. To elaborate, whether visitors are redirected elsewhere and/or are presented with dubious material, depends on their geolocations.

Furthermore, readnewmessage[.]com uses deceptive tactics to trick users into enabling browser notifications ("Press Allow to Watch these Award-winning Movies!"). If the notifications are enabled, the site begins running intrusive ad campaigns. The delivered advertisements are more than just a nuisance, they also pose a threat to device and user safety.

When clicked, intrusive ads can redirect to dubious/malicious web pages, and some can even stealthily download/install rogue software (e.g. PUAs). These unwanted apps can have different capabilities in varied combinations. They can force-open untrusted/dangerous pages and/or deliver intrusive ads (e.g. pop-ups, banners, surveys, coupons, etc.).

Furthermore, most PUAs can track data. They can monitor browsing activity (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and collect personal information derived from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). The data is then shared with and/or sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals).

In summary, the presence of unwanted software on devices can lead to system infections, financial loss, serious privacy issues and even identity theft. To ensure device integrity and user safety, all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins must eliminated immediately upon detection.

PUAs typically seem legitimate normal and innocuous. They offer a wide variety of "useful" functionality, however, despite how good the features promised may sound, they are rarely operational. The only purpose of this unwanted software is to generate revenue for the developers.

Rather than delivering any real value, PUAs can cause redirects, run intrusive advertisement campaigns and gather private information.

How did adware install on my computer?

PUAs are often downloaded/installed together with other products. This deceptive marketing technique of pre-packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling".

By rushing through download/installation (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps and sections, using "Quick/Express" settings, etc.), many users risk unintentionally allowing bundled content into their devices. Intrusive advertisements proliferate PUAs as well.

When clicked, the ads can execute scripts to download/install these applications without users' permission. Some PUAs have "official" download web pages.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

You are strongly advised to research all software before download/installation and/or purchase. All downloads must be done from official and verified sources, since untrusted download channels including unofficial and free file-hosting sites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks and other third party downloaders can offer harmful and bundled content.

Treat download and installation processes with caution. Read the terms, explore all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, features, etc. Intrusive ads may seem legitimate, however, they can redirect to dubious websites (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, and many others).

If you encounter ads or redirects of this kind, inspect your devices and immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins from them. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
