How to remove apps that promote uptoabc.com and similar sites
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is uptoabc[.]com?
uptoabc[.]com is designed to promote (open) dubious websites, and it can also load dubious content itself. More examples of pages similar to uptoabc[.]com are you-just-won-prize[.]com, urgent-incoming[.]email and withoughzp[.]club.
Usually, these sites are opened via untrusted, deceptive advertisements, other web pages of this kind, or by installed potentially unwanted applications (PUAs). I.e., people do not often visit them intentionally.
When promoted by PUAs, web pages such as uptoabc[.]com are opened in new browser windows or tabs. Once visited, they display dubious content or open (about two or three) other untrusted websites. What happens when users visit these sites depends on their geolocations.
Most of these web pages attempt to deceive users into giving permission to show notifications through 'clickbait' techniques. At the time of research, uptoabc[.]com suggested that it can be loaded only by clicking the "Allow" button in a pop-up browser window.
If allowed, pages such as uptoabc[.]com show notifications that promote other untrusted pages, contain deceptive ads, etc. Note that PUAs often serve advertisements and gather information relating to users' browsing activity. PUAs can be designed to serve pop-up ads, coupons, banners surveys and other types of advertisements.
Commonly, these ads promote dubious websites and unwanted applications. I.e., users who click the ads may allow them to open dubious sites or even execute scripts designed to download and install unwanted, potentially malicious apps. PUAs also collect IP addresses, geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited pages, etc.
They might also collect sensitive information, which is sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or misused to generate revenue in other ways.
Name | Ads by uptoabc.com |
Threat Type | Push notifications ads, Unwanted ads, Pop-up ads. |
Serving IP Address | 99.198.108.198 |
Symptoms | Seeing advertisements not originating from the sites you are browsing. Intrusive pop-up ads. Decreased Internet browsing speed. |

Malware Removal (Windows) | To eliminate possible malware infections, scan your computer with legitimate antivirus software. Our security researchers recommend using Combo Cleaner. |
Installation of PUAs can cause problems relating to online privacy and browsing safety, and users might even become victims of identity theft. Therefore, never download or install any PUAs. Note that such apps are often advertised as legitimate and useful.
How did adware install on my computer?
Most users download and install PUAs together with their required software when the apps are distributed by including them into the set-ups. Unwanted downloads and installations are caused when users fail to decline offers of additional apps, which can be done through "Advanced", "Custom" or other settings of the set-ups.
Sometimes users cause unwanted downloads and installations by clicking deceptive ads that execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to download files and programs only from official pages and via direct download links. Other sources/tools such as third party downloaders and installers, torrent clients, eMule (and other Peer-to-Peer networks), unofficial sites, and so on, should not be used.
Check all "Advanced" and "Custom" settings and decline offers to download or install unwanted apps. Do not click advertisements that appear on dubious websites, since they are often used to promote untrusted websites and, in some cases, cause unwanted downloads and installations by executing certain scripts.
Remove all unknown, suspicious, plug-ins, add-ons, and extensions that are installed on the browser. Also remove software of this kind that is installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
