Remove apps that open esmo.pro and similar sites

What is esmo[.]pro?
esmo[.]pro displays dubious content and opens various bogus web pages. It operates in a similar manner to many other sites including, for example, theweathersiren[.]com, mediamodern[.]biz and keysdigita[.]com.
Websites of this type are often opened by browsers when potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) are installed (i.e., users do not visit pages such as esmo[.]pro intentionally). Note that PUAs often serve advertisements and collect data.
Installed PUAs force browsers to open rogue pages such as esmo[.]pro in new windows or tabs. When visited, these pages load dubious content or open about two or three other potentially malicious, deceptive web pages. The function of esmo[.]pro does when opened depends on visitors' geolocations.
Note that esmo[.]pro often deceives visitors into allowing it to show notifications. It suggests that a video can be played by clicking the "Allow" button in a pop-up window. In most cases, visitors who click the aforementioned button allow the page to show notifications, which contain deceptive advertisements, links various untrusted pages, and/or other dubious content.
This is not the only 'clickbait' technique used by rogue websites such as esmo[.]pro. Furthermore, PUAs often display coupons, surveys, banners, pop-ups and other advertisements. When clicked, these ads tend to open untrusted pages or even execute scripts that cause download/installation of unwanted software.
PUAs also track information - browsing data such as IP addresses, geolocations, addresses of visited pages, entered search queries, and other browsing-related information. In some cases, these apps are capable of recording private, sensitive details. The data is sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or misused to generate revenue in other ways.
Users who have PUAs installed on browsers and/or computers are at potential risk of problems relating to privacy, browsing safety or even identity theft. Therefore, you are strongly advised not to download or install apps of this type.

In summary, most PUAs generate revenue for the developers by forcing users to visit dubious addresses, collecting information and/or serving intrusive ads. Apps of this type are often advertised as useful and legitimate, however, most are useless and can cause serious problems. In most cases, people download and install PUAs inadvertently.
How did adware install on my computer?
Typically, users download and install unwanted applications inadvertently together with other required programs. This happens when they fail to check and change "Advanced", "Custom", "Manual" or other settings of the set-ups.
This distribution method of potentially unwanted software is called "bundling". Additionally, unwanted downloads and installations can be caused when users click deceptive ads that execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
It is not safe to use third party downloaders, installers, unofficial web pages, Peer-to-Peer networks (torrent clients, eMule) or other channels of this type to download or install software/files. Commonly, they are used to distribute PUAs or even malicious apps. Check all "Custom" and "Advanced" settings and decline offers to download or install unwanted apps.
Do not click ads that are displayed on dubious web pages (e.g, adult dating, gambling, pornography pages), since they can open untrusted websites or even cause download/installation of unwanted programs. Remove any suspicious extensions, plug-ins, or add-ons installed on the browser, and programs of this kind installed on the operating system.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
