How to remove redirects to and from turbostream.icu
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is turbostream[.]icu?
turbostream[.]icu is rogue site that presents visitors with dubious content and/or redirects to other untrusted or malicious websites. There are thousands of web pages similar to turbostream[.]icu on the internet including, for example, pushwelcome.com, thediseasetracker.com and thenickelpress.com.
Users rarely access turbostream[.]icu and similar sites intentionally - most are redirected to them by intrusive advertisements or Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs) already infiltrated into the system. These apps operate by causing unwanted redirects, running intrusive ad campaigns and collecting browsing-related information.
Users' geolocations are key in determining the turbostream[.]icu course of action. The site learns this information by checking visitors' IP addresses. Therefore, whether users are redirected elsewhere and/or are presented with dubious material, depends on their geolocations.
Additionally, turbostream[.]icu uses browser notifications. It attempts to trick visitors into consenting to these notifications with 'clickbait' ("Press Allow to confirm / I am not a robot / Click on Allow to confirm that you are not a robot"). If they are enabled, the website starts running intrusive ad campaigns.
When clicked, the resultant ads redirect to untrusted and malicious web pages, and some can even execute scripts to stealthily download/install rogue software (e.g. PUAs). These unwanted apps can have other capabilities, as well as force-opening dubious websites.
They can deliver intrusive ad campaigns. I.e., enable the placement of pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys and other advertisements on any site. Most PUAs can track data. They can monitor browsing activity (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and collect personal information extracted from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details).
The gathered data is typically shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) seeking to misuse it for profit. Therefore, the presence of such apps on devices can lead to system infections, financial loss, serious privacy issues and even identity theft.
To ensure device integrity and user safety, remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately upon detection.

PUAs may seem legitimate and useful, and they tend to offer "useful" functionalities, however these features are rarely operational.
The only purpose of these apps is to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than delivering any real value, PUAs cause redirects to untrusted and malicious websites, run intrusive advertisement campaigns and gather personally identifiable information.
How did adware install on my computer?
PUAs are distributed via the download/installation set-ups of other products. This deceptive marketing technique of pre-packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions is termed "bundling".
By rushing through download/installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps and sections, using pre-set options, etc.), many people risk inadvertent installation of bundled content. Some PUAs have "official" promotional pages, from which they can be downloaded.
Intrusive advertisements can infiltrate these applications into systems as well. When clicked, they can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' permission.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to research all products before download/installation or purchase. Use only official and verified download channels. Untrusted sources, such as unofficial and free file-hosting websites, P2P sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.) and other third party downloaders can offer deceptive and bundled content.
When downloading/installing, read the terms, explore available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of all additional apps, tools, features, and so on. It is also important to exercise caution when browsing. Intrusive ads may seem legitimate and harmless, however, they can redirect to dubious web pages (e.g. gambling, adult-dating, pornography, etc.).
If you encounter ads/redirects of this kind, inspect the system and immediately eliminate all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
