How to remove apps that open cmilg.pro and similar websites
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is cmilg[.]pro?
cmilg[.]pro is similar to brotherenuryc[.]pro, gubudakis[.]com, daystream[.]club and many other rogue websites. All redirect visitors to untrusted websites or load dubious content. People do not often visit these sites intentionally - they are opened by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) that are installed on browsers and/or operating systems.
When a website such as gmilg[.]pro is visited, it loads dubious content or redirects visitors to a number (2-3) of other potentially malicious pages. The way it behaves depends on visitors' geolocations. Note that cmilg[.]pro is one of many websites that use a 'clickbait' technique to trick visitors into giving permission to show notifications by clicking an "Allow" button.
In this case, cmilg[.]pro suggests that a video can be played only if visitors click the button. In fact, this will allow the site to show notifications, which usually contain deceptive ads, links to untrusted websites, and so on. Therefore, never permit gmilg[.]pro or other similar pages to show notifications.
Redirects to web pages such as cmilg[.]pro are not the only reason why PUAs should be avoided - these apps serve intrusive advertisements including banners, coupons, surveys, pop-ups and so on. These conceal underlying content of visited websites and redirect people who click them to other bogus sites.
In some cases, they execute scripts to download and/or install some unwanted, potentially malicious software. Also, most PUAs gather information such as IP addresses, geolocations, addresses of visited pages, entered search queries, and other browsing-related details. Installed PUAs might also collect personal, confidential details.
The people responsible for these apps sell the data to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or misuse it to generate revenue in other ways. Therefore, users with these apps installed on their browsers and/or operating systems risk having their identities stolen, experiencing problems relating to browsing safety, privacy, and so on.

PUAs are often useless, and do not deliver useful features or any other value. They are designed only to force browsers to open untrusted pages, gather information relating to users' browsing habits, and display advertisements. All PUAs cause problems, and should thus be uninstalled immediately.
How did adware install on my computer?
Typically, PUAs are distributed using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling", which developers often use to trick people into downloading and installing unwanted apps together with other software. I.e., they include PUAs into download and/or installation set-ups of other programs.
Typically, offers to download and install these additional PUAs can be found in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings and options, however, many people fail to check them settings, thereby allowing PUAs to infiltrate.
Unwanted downloads and installations can also be caused by clicking deceptive ads that execute certain scripts - if clicked, some download and install unwanted software.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Download all software from official pages and via direct links. Avoid third party downloaders, torrent clients, eMule (and other Peer-to-Peer networks), unofficial websites, and so on. Third party installers should not be used. Check "Advanced", "Custom" and other sections/settings of the download and/or installation setup.
Dismiss any offers to download or install unwanted apps. Do not click ads that are shown on dubious web pages - these can open untrusted websites and some might even cause download/installation of PUAs. Check plug-ins, add-ons and extensions installed on the browser and programs on the operating system.
Remove any unwanted, suspicious entries removed immediately. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
