Uninstall IdeaDetails adware from your browser and computer
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is IdeaDetails?
The IdeaDetails application supposedly helps users to browse the Internet more efficiently, however, this is adware-type software that feeds people with intrusive advertisements and records sensitive information. In most cases, people do not download or install apps of this type intentionally and, for this reason, they are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
When installed, IdeaDetails serves unwanted advertisements. Some examples of ads that adware-type apps display are pop-up ads, banners, surveys, coupons, and so on. Typically, people who click them are redirected to untrustworthy websites (i.e., those used to advertise dubious software).
In some cases, they run scripts that cause download or even installation of various unwanted applications. Furthermore, apps such as IdeaDetails usually gather information such as IP addresses, geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited websites, and so on.
IdeaDetails records sensitive details such as passwords, telephone numbers, and credit cards that are saved on the web browser. People who have IdeaDetails installed on their browsers and computers might thus experience problems with browsing safety, privacy, identity theft, and so on. Therefore, uninstall this and other similar apps immediately.

Other apps that are similar to IdeaDetails include SmarterHD, DefaultProducts, and ResourcesSource. Unfortunately, these are just some examples.
Typically, developers advertise them as legitimate and useful applications that supposedly provide various features. When installed, however, they do not operate as advertised. In most cases, they display ads and gather details, thereby enabling the developers to generate revenue.
How did IdeaDetails install on my computer?
Typically, people download and install adware (and many other PUAs) through deceptive advertisements or the set-ups of other programs. If clicked, many ads can cause unwanted downloads/installations, however, unwanted apps can also be downloaded and installed together with other software.
Developers include PUAs into the set-ups of various programs and hope that people will fail to dismiss offers to download/install them. In most cases, these offers can be found in settings such as "Custom", "Advanced", "Manual", etc. Many people download and install software without checking these settings.
If they leave them unchanged, they give permission for additionally-included apps to be downloaded and installed together with regular software.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Do not download and/or install software using third party downloaders/installers or other tools such as Peer-to-Peer networks (torrent clients, eMule), unofficial websites, etc. This should be done using only official websites and direct download links. Check all download/installation set-ups, since they often contain various settings.
Dismiss any offers to download or install additional software before finishing the download or installation process. Do not click intrusive ads, especially if they are displayed on dubious websites. These usually lead to other dubious web pages or cause unwanted downloads/installations.
Browsers commonly open dubious web pages and/or display ads when there are unwanted apps installed. This can be prevented by removing unwanted, unknown or suspicious apps (extensions, plug-ins, add-ons) from the browser and similar programs from the computer/operating system.
If your computer is already infected with IdeaDetails, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
