What is video18plus[.]com?
video18plus[.]com is a rogue website sharing many similarities with untotlowith.info, leadnote.me, anwap-download.club, and countless others. It generates redirects to other dubious, malicious sites and feeds users with dubious content.
Few visitors access video18plus[.]com intentionally - most are redirected by intrusive advertisements or Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs). Note that these apps do no need express user permission to infiltrate devices. PUAs cause redirects, run ad campaigns, and monitor browsing activity.
The user's geolocation is key to determining the actions of video18plus[.]com. It learns this data by checking visitors' Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. Depending on the geolocations, the site redirects users elsewhere and/or delivers dubious content.
This web page also uses browser notifications with consent for them hidden by 'clickbait' (e.g. "Click here if you are 18 or older", "Tap 'Allow' to view viral videos", "Your page is loading, press 'Allow' to continue", "You have won, press here to receive your prize", etc.). If consent is granted, video18plus[.]com begins running intrusive ad campaigns.
These ads are a safety threat due to the compromised and malicious websites they redirect to, and for their ability to execute scripts to stealthily download/install PUAs. As mentioned, unwanted applications also cause redirects and run ad campaigns.
By implementing various tools, PUAs deliver intrusive advertisements (pop-ups, banners, surveys, coupons, etc.), which can diminish the browsing experience.
Furthermore, these rogue apps have data tracking abilities, which they employ to record browsing habits (URLs visited, pages viewed, search engine history, etc.), thereby collecting users' personal information (IP addresses, geolocations, and other private details).
This sensitive data is then shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) intent on misusing it for financial gain. To summarize, PUAs can cause system infiltration and lead to severe privacy issues (even identity theft). To ensure device and user safety, remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately upon detection.

There are countless PUAs available, most of which share certain similarities or are identical. Typically, unwanted applications seem legitimate and offer various features to entice users to install, however, these features are rarely operational. The only purpose of all unwanted software/files is to generate revenue for the developers, whilst regular users receive no value.
PUAs cause redirects to sale-based, untrustworthy and malicious websites, run intrusive advertisement campaigns, and collect private data.
How did adware install on my computer?
PUAs are often proliferated through the download/installation set-ups of other programs. This deceptive marketing method of pre-packing regular software with unwanted or malicious content is called "bundling". The tactic is widely used PUA developers and is frequently successful in proliferating their malicious products.
Rushing download/installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps and sections, using pre-set options, etc.) increases the risk of potential system infiltration and infections. Intrusive advertisements are also known to proliferate PUAs. When clicked, these ads can execute scripts designed to make rogue downloads/installs.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Research software and content to verify legitimacy before downloading/installing. Use only official and verified download sources, as opposed to P2P sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.), unofficial and free file-hosting websites, third party downloaders and similar channels.
All download and installation processes should be treated with caution. This includes reading the terms, exploring possible options, using the "Custom/Advanced" settings, and declining offers to download/install additional apps, tools, features, etc.
Despite being hosted on untrustworthy websites, intrusive advertisements often seem normal and harmless, however, they can redirect to dubious web pages (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, and many other types). If you experience these ads/redirects, check the device and immediately remove all suspect applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
