See Scenic Elf Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is See Scenic Elf?
See Scenic Elf is a potentially unwanted application (PUA) categorized as adware (advertising supportive software). People who have these apps installed on their systems are served with intrusive advertisements. PUAs also gather user-system information.
Adware-type applications deliver coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and other intrusive ads. When displayed, they conceal underlying content of visited websites and can be very frustrating. Furthermore, people who click them are usually redirected to dubious, possibly malicious websites.
Some of these ads might execute scripts that cause download and installation of other unwanted applications. Another problem with some adware is that it can gather information relating to users' browsing habits. For example, IP addresses, geolocations, URLs of visited websites, entered search queries, and so on. In some cases, adware also gathers personal details.
Developers continually share all collected data with other parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. This can lead to browsing safety/privacy issues and other problems. Therefore, uninstall all PUAs immediately.

There is extensive adware-type software on the Internet including, for example, Clicker, PowerGamesNetwork, and BWplayer to name just a few.
These apps might be promoted as 'useful tools', however, they are designed only to generate revenue for the developers by feeding users with ads and gathering data. To avoid unwanted installations and the above problems, uninstall See Scenic Elf and other PUAs immediately.
How did See Scenic Elf install on my computer?
In most cases, adware-type apps are downloaded and installed without users' knowledge. This usually happens when software developers use the "bundling" method to trick people into downloading/installing potentially unwanted applications with other software.
They achieve this by hiding PUAs in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of other software set-ups. Furthermore, many users often rush download/installation steps without carefully studying them, thereby unintentionally allowing PUAs to be downloaded and installed. Clicking the aforementioned (deceptive) advertisements also causes unwanted installations.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Avoid using third party software downloaders/installers, dubious websites, Peer-to-Peer networks such as torrent clients, eMule and other dubious sources to download (or install) software. Download from official websites and using direct download links. Check "Advanced"/Custom" and other settings of the software download or installation setup.
Dismiss all unwanted apps and only then finish the download or installation. Note that intrusive ads (especially those displayed on dubious websites) often cause redirects to potentially malicious websites such as gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc.
If such ads or redirects occur regularly, check for new plug-ins, add-ons, and extensions installed on the browser, or programs installed on the computer. Remove any unwanted, suspicious apps/programs immediately. If your computer is already infected with See Scenic Elf, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
