Durington.info POP-UP Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is durington.info?
durington.info is an untrustworthy, rogue website that has similar behavior to many others of this type such as deparationew.info, concreasun.info, and verifycaptcha.com. The site displays dubious content or redirects users to other dubious websites. Note, however, that most people are forced to visit durington.info by potentially unwanted apps (PUAs) that they install unintentionally.
Therefore, most people do not visit this site willingly. Furthermore, PUAs feed users with intrusive advertisements and collect browsing-related information.
After installation, PUAs regularly open durington.info in new browser windows or tabs. The site then displays dubious content or redirects visitors to other dubious sites (about two or three ). Its behaviour depends on the visitor's geo-location. Some of the websites to which it redirects might contain malicious content.
Thus, redirects to and from durington.info can lead to computer infections with malicious programs. PUAs (adware-type) deliver online ads. They employ tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site and display coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and other intrusive ads. These can be annoying, since they conceal content of visited websites.
Furthermore, if clicked, they often open untrustworthy, potentially malicious websites or execute scripts designed to download and install other unwanted apps. Another negative aspect of having PUAs installed is information tracking. These apps continually gather search queries, geo-locations, URLs of visited websites, IP (Internet Protocol) addresses, and so on.
Developers share all collected data with third parties (criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. Some of the recorded data might include sensitive (personal) information. Thus, having apps PUAs installed might cause privacy and browsing safety issues. Some people might even have their identities stolen. Therefore, uninstall all potentially unwanted apps immediately.

Most PUAs are promoted as useful software. Their developers offer "useful" features, tools, and other advantages, however, once installed, these apps deliver no real value. PUAs are designed only to generate revenue for their developers rather than providing the features promised.
How did adware install on my computer?
Most users install these apps inadvertently through intrusive ads or when installing (or downloading) other, regular software. To trick people into causing unwanted installations, developers use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".
In summary, they hide bundled (additionally-included) programs/apps in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar sections of the download/installation set-ups. Furthermore, many users rush these processes and skip steps, thereby installing or downloading PUAs.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To avoid unwanted installations, download software from official/trustworthy websites and use direct links. Do not use third party software downloaders/installers, unofficial websites, torrents, eMule, or other Peer-to-peer networks.
Do not skip software download or installation steps and check all available settings (such as "Custom", "Advanced", etc.) and deselect offers to install or download PUAs. Avoid clicking intrusive ads, especially if they are presented on untrustworthy, unofficial websites.
These often seem legitimate, however, they cause redirects to dubious websites such as gambling, pornography, adult dating, and other similar untrustworthy pages. If a browser causes unwanted redirects or displays intrusive ads, check for any new plug-ins, add-ons, and extensions installed.
Also check for any unwanted programs installed on your computer. Uninstall/remove dubious entries immediately. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
