Artnewsupdate.info POP-UP Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is artnewsupdate.info?
artnewsupdate.info is one of many rogue websites available. It is virtually identical to trying.com, websnewsdate.com, cprmatix.com, and many others.
The site causes redirects to various other untrustworthy sites. In most cases, users do not visit artnewsupdate.info intentionally - they are redirected to it by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) known to cause unwanted redirects, deliver ads, and gather data.
When installed, potentially unwanted applications force browsers to open new tabs/windows and then redirect users to artnewsupdate.info, which then causes additional (usually two or three) redirects to other untrustworthy (potentially malicious sites). Being forced to visit websites of this type puts users at risk of computer infections.
Most PUAs deliver intrusive ads including coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, etc. These are typically displayed using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site and conceal underlying content.
The ads are annoying, and, once clicked, usually redirect to untrustworthy websites or even run scripts that download and install other potentially unwanted applications. Furthermore, many PUAs off this type collect data (such as geo-locations, IP addresses, keystrokes, search queries, visited websites, and so on).
This information is used to generate revenue by selling it to third parties (potentially cyber criminals). Some of the gathered data might include personally identifiable or sensitive information.
If these details are misused (especially by cyber criminals), users might experience privacy issues, browsing safety problems, or even identity theft. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you uninstall PUAs immediately.
Name | artnewsupdate.info pop-up |
Threat Type | Adware, Unwanted ads, Pop-up Virus |
Symptoms | Seeing advertisements not originating from the sites you are browsing. Intrusive pop-up ads. Decreased Internet browsing speed. |
Distribution methods | Deceptive pop-up ads, free software installers (bundling), fake flash player installers. |

The list of potentially unwanted applications is impressive, and most applications of this type are identical, or at least share many similarities. They are all promoted by offering 'tools and features', but these are simply attempts to give the impression of legitimacy.
PUAs deliver no real value for regular users and are designed only to generate revenue for developers. Rather than providing the functionality promised, most PUAs cause unwanted redirects, gather sensitive information, and deliver intrusive ads.
How did adware install on my computer?
Potentially unwanted applications can be downloaded from official websites, however, due to the lack of knowledge and careless behaviour of many users, most are installed without consent. PUAs are often installed through certain ads or when software developers use the "bundling" method. Bundling is essentially stealth installation of third party applications with regular software.
These applications are typically hidden in "Custom/Advanced" settings (or other sections). Developers do not disclose information about installations of PUAs properly. Skipping installation steps and clicking ads increases the chance that you will inadvertently install potentially unwanted application. These can lead to privacy issues and other problems.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Avoid downloading software using torrent clients, third party software downloaders, and so on. Use only trustworthy and official sources. Install software with care, study each installation dialog window/step and check "Advanced", "Custom" and other similar settings. Bear in mind that some advertisements (even if they seem legitimate) might redirect you to untrustworthy websites such as gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc.
Developers of these ads (mostly cyber criminals) invest time and money in their design, so that they appear legitimate and tempting. If you clicked this type of ad and were redirected to a dubious website, close it and check your browser for suspicious extensions, add-ons, plugins, etc.
Also check installed programs on your computer. Uninstall/remove all unknown/unwanted entries immediately. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
