Search.anilopo.com Redirect (Mac)

What is search.anilopo.com?
Identical to search.opengross.com, search.stosgame.com, search.nelrozplace.com, and many others, search.anilopo.com is a fake search engine that claims to enhance the browsing experience by generating improved results. Judging on the design alone, search.anilopo.com barely differs from Yahoo, Bing, Google, and other legitimate search engines.
Therefore, many users believe that search.anilopo.com is also legitimate, however, developers promote this site using a browser-hijacking app called Anilopo. In addition, search.anilopo.com and Anilopo record information relating to web browsing activity.
Anilopo targets Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Google Chrome. Following infiltration, it assigns the new tab URL, homepage, and default search engine browser options to search.anilopo.com These changes may seem significant, and yet users are unable to revert them. Research shows that Anilopo reassigns browser options when attempts are made to change them.
Therefore, unless this browser hijacker is uninstalled, returning browsers to their previous states becomes impossible and users are encouraged to visit search.anilopo.com when they open a new browser tab or search via the URL bar. This significantly diminishes the web browsing experience.
Another important issue is information tracking. Be aware that search.anilopo.com and Anilopo continually record information that often includes personal details. IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other similar gathered is later shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals).
These people misuse private information to generate revenue. Therefore, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to uninstall the Anilopo browser hijacker and never return to search.anilopo.com

The Internet is full of fake web search engines, all of which are virtually identical. By delivering false promises to generate improved results and, sometimes, provide other "useful features" (weather forecasts, currency exchange rates, shortcuts to popular websites, latest worldwide news, etc.), fake search engines often trick users into believing that these sites are legitimate and useful. In fact, the only purpose of all fake search engines is to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than giving any real value for regular users, these sites simply gather sensitive information and cause unwanted redirects. Some generate false search results and intrusive ads (coupons, banners, etc.) leading to various computer infections.
How did Anilopo install on my computer?
The Anilopo browser hijacker has an official download website, however, due to the lack of knowledge and careless behavior of many users, this PUP often infiltrates systems without permission, since developers proliferate it using intrusive advertisements and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".
Intrusive ads redirect users to malicious websites and execute scripts that stealthily download and install PUPs (or even malware). "Bundling" is essentially stealth installation of PUPs with regular (typically free) software/apps. Developers do not disclose PUP installations properly.
They are hidden within certain sections (typically, "Custom" or "Advanced" settings) of the download/installation processes. Furthermore, many users are likely to rush these procedures, skip steps, and click various advertisements without understanding the possible consequences.
This behavior can lead to inadvertent installation of PUPs such as Anilopo - users expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The key to computer safety is caution. Therefore, pay close attention when downloading/installing software and browsing the Internet in general. Carefully analyze each window of the download/installation dialogs using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings. During the process, cancel offers to download/install additional programs and opt-out of those already included.
You are advised to download your programs from official sources only (via direct download links) rather than using third party downloaders/installers. These tools are monetized by promoting ("bundling") PUPs, and thus using them is risky.
Note that intrusive advertisements may seem legitimate, but they often redirect to dubious websites (such as gambling, pornography, and so on). Research shows that intrusive advertisements are typically displayed by adware-type programs. If you encounter suspicious redirects, remove all dubious apps/browser plug-ins.
If your computer is already infected with browser hijackers, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
