Pushedwebnews.com Redirect

Also Known As: pushedwebnews.com pop-up
Type: Adware
Damage level: Medium

What is pushedwebnews.com?

pushedwebnews.com is a rogue website designed to redirect to a variety of other dubious sites. It is identical to bestadbid.com, wemidon.win, toroadvertisingmedia.com, and many others. Users are redirected to pushedwebnews.com by potentially unwanted programs (PUPs).

Research shows that, in most cases, PUPs infiltrate systems without permission and are also known to deliver intrusive advertisements, record sensitive data, and perform unnecessary background tasks.

pushedwebnews.com adware

Immediately after infiltration, PUPs randomly open new browser tabs/windows and redirect to pushedwebnews.com. This site then causes several (typically 2 or 3) consecutive redirects to other suspicious sites. There is a high probability that these sites will contain malicious content. Therefore, redirects to pushedwebnews.com might result in further adware or malware infections.

As mentioned above, PUPs deliver various advertisements (e.g., coupons, banners, pop-ups, etc.) These are delivered using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, they often conceal visited website content, thereby significantly diminishing the web browsing experience.

Furthermore, these ads may also redirect to malicious websites and/or even execute scripts that stealthily download/install malware. Thus, clicking intrusive advertisements might also lead to high-risk computer infections. Another downside is information tracking. Potentially unwanted programs often record information that includes personal details.

This data is typically sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals). Therefore, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft.

Some PUPs are also known to mine cryptocurrencies or run other unwanted processes in the background. This behavior significantly diminishes overall system performance. For these reasons, you are advised to uninstall all potentially unwanted programs immediately.

There are hundreds of potentially unwanted programs, all of which are virtually identical. Most offer various "useful features", however, PUPs are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. Claims to enable certain functionality are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy.

In fact, only a small fraction of PUPs provide the features promised - most are useless for regular users. These programs cause unwanted redirects (thereby promoting dubious websites, most of which are fake search engines), deliver ads, gather information, and misuse system resources, thereby posing a direct threat to privacy and Internet browsing safety.

How did adware install on my computer?

In some cases, PUPs have official download websites, however, most are distributed using intrusive ads and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". Therefore, they often infiltrate systems without permission. "Bundling" is stealth installation of third party applications together with regular software/apps.

Developers know that users often rush download/installation processes and skip steps. Therefore, they hide "bundled" apps within various sections (e.g., "Custom/Advanced" settings) of the download or installation processes. Skipping download/installation steps and clicking advertisements thus often leads to inadvertent installation of rogue applications.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

The main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge and careless behavior. The key to safety is caution. Be cautious when downloading/installing software and browsing the Internet in general. Carefully analyze each download/installation step (especially "Custom/Advanced" settings) and opt-out of all additionally-included programs.

We also advise you to avoid using third party downloaders/installers, since criminals monetize them by proliferating rogue apps (the "bundling" method).

Furthermore, many intrusive ads look legitimate, however, they are distinguishable for their redirects - most lead to gambling, adult dating, pornography, and other suspicious sites. If you encounter such ads, uninstall all suspicious applications and browser plug-ins.
