Stop-block.org Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is stop-block.org?
Identical to unstops.biz, no-blocks.net, and a number of others, stop-block.org is a rogue application that falsely claims to allow users to visit websites that are blocked in their own countries. Judging on appearance alone, stop-block.org may appear legitimate and useful, however, this app usually infiltrates systems without consent.
Furthermore, it continually delivers intrusive online advertisements and gathers various information relating to users' Internet browsing activity. For these reasons, stop-block.org is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
Following infiltration, stop-block.org employs a "virtual layer" to generate pop-up, coupon, banner, and other similar ads. The virtual layer is a tool that enables placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, the displayed ads often conceal underlying content of visited websites, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience.
In addition, some redirect to malicious websites - even accidental clicks can result in high-risk adware or malware infections. Be aware that stop-block.org gathers IP addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other similar information relating to users' Internet browsing activity.
This collected data might contain personal details that developers of stop-block.org share with cooperating third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who generate revenue by misusing personal information. Thus, the presence of an information-tracking app can result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to uninstall stop-block.org adware immediately.
The Internet is full of adware-type applications, all of which are virtually identical. By offering various 'useful features', potentially unwanted programs trick users into believing that these PUPs are legitimate and useful, however, the only purpose of all PUPs is to generate revenue for the developers.
These applications provide no value for regular users, cause unwanted redirects, gather various user-system information, and continually deliver intrusive online advertisements.
How did stop-block.org install on my computer?
This adware is free for anyone to download on its official website, however, developers also promote stop-block.org by employing a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" - stealth installation of third party applications with regular software/apps.
All bundled applications are hidden within the "Custom/Advanced" settings of the download or installation processes. Rushing these procedures and skipping steps often leads to inadvertent installation of potentially unwanted programs such as stop-block.org.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Installation of potentially unwanted programs can be prevented by taking two simple steps. Firstly, choose the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings and carefully analyze each download/installation step. Secondly, decline offers to download/install additional applications and cancel those already included. The key to computer safety is caution.
